Who says the Emmy Awards is only for TV shows? Well, you’ve got the likes of “Game of Thrones,” “The Sopranos,” “Breaking Bad,” “Succession,” “Saturday Night Live,” and “The Queen’s Gambit,” among others, winning several accolades at the Emmys.
But, did you know Uber Eats recently won in the Emmys, too?
Yes! Uber Eats once created this ad titled Brian Cox Goes to College. In the ad, available on YouTube, Cox enters the scene in school, clad in a “Harry Potter-esque” clothing. The staff at the registration table told him, upon seeing him, “Parents are on that side.”
But then, Cox explained that he’s there to study, so with no jibber-jabber and questions, the other staff gave him his ID. It was a punchy start, like a lead to a news.
Then, the frame transitioned to this interview with a student, saying, “Well, my roomie is Brian Cox,” which injects a very funny pun for the ad.
The next scene is about Cox entering the room where the student interview is likewise, then Coz goes yelling, pissed for whatever reason.
Followed by this scene where Cox and his schoolmates were sitting in a circle, with them sharing their specializations.
One of the students said, “I’m doing a double major in Art History and Political Science.”
“You’d make a [nice] barista one day,” Cox responded to him.
The student interviewed from earlier, almost caught laughing on-cam, acted, “I thought he’s only here for Uber One for the students!”
“My name is Brian, and my interest is food and saving money on food,” Cox told the group.
When asked what he is majoring in, he couldn’t answer.
The next scene is even funnier. When the professor was asking a question in a recitation, “What are your thoughts on the readings?,” Cox raised his hand, as if to answer the teacher’s question, but said, “Not you, him,” pointing at the delivery guy who just arrived at the classroom with his order.
The rest of the video is Cox taking his Uber ride home, and sharing tacos with the student he just shouted upon in the students’ rooms.
The ad, though, runs for over a minute.
“Uber One for Students saves you on Uber and Uber Eats. Now everyone wants to be a student… but just to be clear, he’s only here for the discounts,” says the YouTube caption.
The viewers are loving it!
“I’m a just-retired mass communications professor, and we spent a lot of time in my class studying commercials. This one is great! Big score for Uber Eats,” commented @johnharte1221.
The New Zealand creative team, headquartered in New Zealand, won the Emmy Award for Most Outstanding Commercial at this year’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards for this commercial.
Even if you feel stressed and then you see this video, you will laugh, and that’s since Cox is a trained Shakespearean actor, classically trained for work on stage and screen. This Scottish actor has won two Laurence Olivier Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Golden Globe Award, as well as two nominations for a British Academy Television Award.
