For Uber Eats in the upcoming Super Bowl LIX event, it’s not just one ad, but a series of ads to be featured for the show. Uber Eats is one of the main events in the world’s biggest American football championship game.
‘Century of Cravings’
Previously, the Ridesharing Forum team featured award-winning Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey in a series of ads for Uber Eats in 2024. Now, he’s back for another ad for Uber Eats, but this time for the upcoming Super Bowl LIX sporting event.
And, he’s bringing some company.
“It’s our fifth consecutive year back at the Super Bowl and to celebrate, we’re diving into the history of football. But this time, it looks a little different. As Matthew McConaughey reimagines the origins of the sport, it’s colored by his conspiracy theory: that football was invented to sell food,” Uber’s newsroom stated.
Aside from McConaughey, “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig, singer Charli XCX, and businesswoman Martha Stewart are also revealed to be featured in the ad series, which is titled “Century of Cravings.”
The ad series is very witty. “Century of Cravings,” the star-studded ad series travels back in time to feature significant moments in history while placing food references into football. For one, there’s the appearance of a “pigskin” to make viewers crave bacon – with a wordplay for actor Kevin Bacon.
Then, there’s McConaughey, Sean Evans of “Hot Ones,” and a certain friend named Bill diving into a plate of buffalo wings, in the hopes of putting a pun on the Buffalo team, meanwhile.
In his spotlight in the ads, McConaughey, dressed as Bears coach Mike Ditka, speaks with player William Perry that he does have to go by “refrigerator.” The advertisement also shows the Hollywood actor as quarterback Peyton Manning, implying how Manning was attempting to sell Omaha steaks using his signature almost-snap term.
For Charli XCX and Stewart, it’s a bit more formal and professional. They appear in a boardroom where McConaughey quips how the games this year are sponsored by an “apple,” in reference to Apple Music, then how Caesars Superdome is seemingly named after Caesar salad.
Plus, did you know Uber Eats has collaborated with Stewart to create a special Caesar salad that you can try as you have it delivered to you in a Caesars Superdome-inspired bowl?
The ads also have their extended version that puts the cherry on top, or the ice cream at the end of a meal. This version makes the connection between football Sundays, and – quite funny – ice cream sundaes, even adding the Green Bay Packers team whose fans are known as cheeseheads.
The comedy continues with the Roman numerals for this year’s game, “LIX,” reading as “licks.”
