It’s been a while here on Ridesharing Forum. Did you guys have an incredible Thanksgiving? That’s for sure. So, let’s continue sharing news on food delivery and ridesharing, beginning with this new partnership of Uber Eats.
One of the world’s most popular food delivery apps has partnered anew with robotics provider Starship to deliver meals in Great Britain by robots. The areas will focus on two cities, Sheffield and Leeds.
Sheffield is a city in the English county of South Yorkshire. Right at the city centre, you can visit the Millennium Gallery, a place that showcases metalwork and art from Sheffield and from around the world. It adjoins the Winter Garden, which is a giant temperate glasshouse filled with plants.
Then, you may also head over to Kelham Island Museum, which covers the industrial heritage of the city. Continue your way to the nearby countryside, where you can find the Peak District National Park, featuring moorland and rocky ridges.
Meanwhile, over at Leeds, you could explore historical sites like Kirkstall Abbey and Temple Newsam, visit museums like the Royal Armouries and Leeds Art Gallery, and enjoy outdoor adventures in outdoor spaces like Roundhay Park. The city also offers vibrant shopping at Trinity Leeds and historic arcades, a thriving food scene, and entertainment at venues like the First Direct Arena.
Sarfraz Maredia, the global head of autonomous in Uber, stated, “Autonomous delivery is an exciting part of how we see the future of Uber Eats.”
Under this partnership, Uber Eats will start delivering food by robots with the world’s first rollout in cooperation with Starship, which is a renowned AI-run robotics specialist.
Starship is a company that specializes in revolutionizing “last-mile” delivery by using fleets of self-driving robots to deliver groceries, food, and packages locally. Deliveries managed by Starship are well-established, with over nine million deliveries completed across seven nations.
Sheffield and Leeds in the northern United Kingdom will see the first streetside robots this December, where they are delivering meals in under just 30 minutes for distances up to two miles.
“Together, we’re building the infrastructure that will define the next generation of urban logistics,” stated the co-founder and the CEO of Starship Technologies. “Uber Eats has built the world’s leading delivery platform, with the widest reach, trusted by millions across 10,000 cities. We bring scalable autonomous technology that works profitably at city scale.”
Uber Eats seconded that, saying that the collaboration means proven autonomous delivery technology at a commercial scale across several countries.
Uber Eats works with your other favorite food delivery platforms. It connects you with restaurants via its app, allowing you to browse, order, and track food for delivery. You then place the order and pay within the app, while Uber partners accept delivery requests and use the system to navigate between the restaurant and the customer’s location. Then, you simply need to wait until your food is delivered!
The rollout will happen in various European countries by next year, with an expansion to the United States by 2027. For more food delivery news, keep browsing this Ridesharing Forum website.
