Who’s gonna be the hero of Delivery Hero? Apparently, it’s Uber.
Few days ago, Ridesharing Forum became witness to the news that Uber is already the partial owner of Berlin-based Delivery Hero, a world-renowned delivery platform that operates Internet food ordering, groceries, and quick commerce in over 60 countries today. It connects consumers with restaurants and shops, operating its own fleet of delivery staff and micro-warehouses.
In the report, it says that Uber has acquired additional shares and instruments in Delivery Hero, which means it now owns 19.5 percent of the Berlin-based platform’s issued capital, with a further 5.6 percent in options.
This makes them a partial owner, since the stake is worth a whopping $2 billion.
“Delivery Hero welcomes Uber’s additional investment as a further endorsement of its platform and Everyday App strategy. The Company remains focused on driving operational performance and executing on the strategic review to deliver long-term value for all shareholders,” Delivery Hero told the Ridesharing Forum team.
Only recently, the media stated that Uber has confirmed its full takeover of Delivery Hero.
To consider that this will take place, the following implications will surface:
- This would mark the further expansion of Uber in Europe, where Delivery Hero is based, maneuvering its dynamics after the series of deals and exits in recent years.
- The acquiring company – in this case, Uber – gains complete ownership and total control, absorbing all assets and liabilities, and dissolving the target management. That is, if the tradition in business will be followed.
- Considering these scenarios, the original company’s stock – Delivery Hero – is usually delisted, and shareholders receive cash or brand-new shares.
Uber did not release an official statement regarding this fresh matter. However, Delivery Hero did.
Chatting with Reuters, it stated, "If Uber believes that further investment in the Issuer is attractive, Uber may acquire, or seek to acquire, shares or other securities.”
Delivery Hero, however, buckled up, saying it did not currently want to increase the stake to 30 percent, since this “would trigger a mandatory offer to the remaining shareholders.” Deliberations are on-going, and there are still uncertainties at this time. Whether or not Uber will fully take over Delivery Hero remains to be seen.
