Uber Eats being present now in Finland has opened up several gastronomic opportunities. A food market in the city a few days ago offered food for free in partnership with the food delivery app. Yes, food for free! Will you even resist? Here’s the scoop.
Helsinki is much more than a wonderful tourist destination, featuring the excellence of attractions, such as Suomenlinna, the Helsinki Cathedral, and Temppeliaukio Church, among others. It is also a food haven.
Food in Finland, or Finnish food, is a rustic, hearty cuisine defined by the country’s seasonal ingredients. So, you get clean tastes, and a deep connection with nature.
Centered around delights like rye bread, fresh fish – from salmon to vendace – reindeer (yes!), forest berries, and root vegetables, Finnish food highlights simplicity and preservation techniques, such as smoking, curing, and pickling, producing a diet that’s nourishing and practical, that which balances Nordic traditions with eastern European and western European influences.
So, Uber Eats did not let this opportunity slip away. Previously, Ridesharing Forum reported the opening of the Uber Eats market in Finland.
"We think it’s time to raise the bar, shake things up, and offer better value for money across the entire industry,” Uber’s global delivery head Susan Anderson stated. Czech Republic, Greece, Romania, Austria, Denmark, and Norway are the other countries welcoming Uber in its European market push.
Last May 6th, Uber Eats hit the streets of Helsinki to throw a one-of-a-kind party and a free food market at the Vanha Ylioppilastalo, or the student house. It’s really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, since the food market became available only from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time.
There was a crowd, of course, but just the first 150 people were able to get food for free, and the lucky winners enjoyed the best of local flavors and favorites, such as Haru Sushi, Green Hippo, Ester’s Grocery, Boneless, Noodle Master, and Torrefazione.
These selections are worthwhile. For instance, Noodle Master is the go-to food joint for affordable eats, while Green Hippo is among the best breakfast spots in town. Then, there’s Torrefazione, the team that brought European coffee culture to Finland. Boneless, meanwhile, is an award-winning burger heavyweight, while Haru Sushi is also among the best reliable sushi buffets.
“The Uber Eats Food Market is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase what we do and meet both familiar faces and new customers,” Asaf Peled, the founder of Ester’s Grocery, said to Ridesharing Forum. “It’s a happiness to be part of an event that brings people together over great food.”
Those who missed the free food market may still order the food favorites via the Uber Eats official app. Helsinki is just the starting point for Helsinki, since the leading food delivery app is looking at expanding into Espoo and Tampere later this month of May, with more cities in Finland joining the roster very soonest.
