Bourgeoisie? Burgers! Aussies Order 123 Million Burgers So Far Through Uber Eats

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Uber Eats Australia, the food delivery division of Uber Eats in this Pacific country ran a lot of gimmicks, from sharing the most unforgettable items ordered by customers to revealing which foods were ordered most often.

The winner: burgers. So the RSF team tried to find out why these Australians luuurves burgers.

First things first, Uber Eats Australia revealed that these burgers were the most-ordered food on Uber Eats over the decade, with pizza coming in second and Mexican food taking the third spot.

It is interesting to note that chicken isn’t found on the list, though it has grown its share of orders by four-percent elsewhere other than Australia. Yet, still, chicken has cemented its place as the go-to protein source of Australians, especially fitness enthusiasts and trainers.

Sad for the desserts, they fell 4.4 percent in terms of orders over the similar period.

It is also interesting to note that with a celebratory mood, Uber Eats Australia also found that Saturday is the most popular day to order, though weekday ordering is growing to be a habit for many Australians.

Nearly one in five orders is being made between 10 p.m. and 10 a.m.

Meanwhile, breakfast delight orders are also growing. Almost 110 million orders were placed between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. over the past 10 years. And when you ask which breakfast items were the most ordered? Not cereals, or bread, but acai bowls and smoothies, accounting for almost three million orders. These Aussies also love croissants and bagels.

Quite stunning! But why do Australians love burgers so much? The RSF newsroom did some research.

Who won’t love burgers, right? But the deep love of Aussies for these burgers is something to note.

First, it has been deduced that Australians fancy these burgers for they combine deep childhood nostalgia, a vibrant local corner-shop culture, and an on-going obsession with loaded, maximalist ingredients.

So, it’s more than the taste.

There’s also another report on The Sydney Morning Herald, titled “Why Australia is hungry for a new wave of American burgers – and where to find them,” which stated that 50 years after Australia’s first encounter with McDonald’s, the Australians are getting their dibs again on these American-style burgers, as these fast-food chains, originating from America, are bringing ultra-minimalist cheeseburger to this Pacific country.

“People are queuing for hours for these stripped-back burgers, filled with little more than meat, cheese and mouth-puckering pickles, while local franchisees are investing big in American brands,” stated Emma Breheny and Megan Johnston of the Sydney Morning Herald.

And, not only is this because of McDonald’s, but also other burger chains like Wahlburgers and Five Guys, as well as Carl’s Jr., and Slim’s Quality Burger. If you’re not familiar, you can find them on Google.

Also, it is interesting to note how Australia has also kindled a passion for gourmet burgers. Yes, gourmet burgers!

RSF chatted with Australian Dani Zeini to shed light on this, and said, “Hospitality that was genuinely friendly and warm. It didn’t matter if you were in trackies or a suit, you got treated the same. I appreciated that. Coming from a fine-dining background, sometimes you don’t get that quality service in nice restaurants. But in the States, everywhere we went was welcoming, especially in burger chains. I felt like I wanted to bring that back to Australia.”

Can sound like an ocean to these Australians, RSF is guessing! For more food delivery news, stay with RSF, and share this story around online with your family and friends!
