Apparently, it is not only Stop & Shop, the century-old neighborhood grocer that is in partnership anew with Uber, but also its sister companies under Ahold Delhaize USA.
“Ahold Delhaize is a global leader in supermarkets and e-commerce, at the forefront of sustainable retailing,” stated on the website official of the brand.
This company is the parent company of leading local grocery brands like Stop & Shop, Food Lion, Giant Food, The GIANT Company, and Hannaford. This makes it the biggest grocery retail group on the east coast of the USA and the fourth biggest in the nation.
Its newest partnership together with Uber Eats will pave the way for deliveries from almost 2,000 stores across these banners. Let’s take a look:
- Stop & Shop: A Northeastern United States supermarket chain offering groceries, pharmacy services, and delivery.
- Food Lion: An affordable grocery chain known for savings, private labels, and convenience.
- Giant Food: A mid-Atlantic supermarket brand providing produce, pharmacy, and online ordering options.
- The GIANT Company: A Pennsylvania-based retailer, Giant, and Martin’s banners, focusing on value and quality.
- Hannaford: A New England supermarket chain emphasizing foods, sustainability, and pharmacy services.
All these banners are now already listed on the official Uber Eats app for on-demand and scheduled delivery options.
Not its first connection with Uber
Apparently, too, this isn’t the first time that Ahold Delhaize USA is connecting with Uber. Previously, it leveraged the support of Uber Direct, an Uber division, for its first-party delivery channels in some markets since October last year.
Uber Direct is a white-label, on-demand delivery service that allows businesses to use Uber’s network for fast local delivery – either same-day or in-hours – directly from their own app or website.
However, this is the very first time customers can order from those brands through the official Uber Eats app. Check out the steps on how to order here.
Eligible orders at participating locations also support the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, and other nutrition assistance platforms, which are enabled through Uber’s team-up with Forage.
Ahold’s market performance contributed
Ahold USA is not forging this partnership for the sake of partnership. In fact, they made a three-point shot as its online sales in the United States grew almost 23 percent in the fourth quarter, with strong performances across all its banners under its wing.
“Customers expect flexibility in how they shop, and that means being wherever they are – whether through our own brand experiences or trusted marketplaces like Uber Eats,” stated Keith Nicks, chief commercial and digital officer, together with Jolanda Poots-Bijl, chief financial officer, with Ahold Delhaize USA.“The combination of our delivery speed, customer reach, and extensive assortment, enabled by our strategic shift to same-day delivery and ongoing partnerships with DoorDash and Instacart, is what wins over the customers.”
