SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is a federal government program in the United States that provides food-purchasing assistance to low-income people and families, so they could afford a nutritious diet too, and maintain a good health, and keep themselves in the best shape. This program is a critical part of the country’s social safety net.
DoorDash is working with SNAP to easily and more conveniently bring these supplies to the recipients. This time, the app is waiving fees for these recipients. Read on to find out how you could get the benefits.
Problems, solutions
Yet, SNAP isn’t perfect. It has been recently reported that over 40 million SNAP recipients face not having access to the benefits. So, starting November 1st, DoorDash is bound to deliver the equivalent of a million free meals nationwide. It is also waiving the fees for 300,000 SNAP recipients’ grocery orders next month.
DoorDash confirmed it is waiving merchant fees for over 300 food banks and pantries signed into its Project DASH initiative, if you have been following news stories. This is equivalent to around a million meals for November. DoorDash is also poised to donate food from DashMart stores to the local food banks. Incredible.

“No one should go hungry in America – period,” Max Rettig, deputy president and global head of public policy at DoorDash, emphasized in a statement announcing the launch of the company’s Emergency Food Response. “Millions of families are worried right now about how they’ll put food on the table. Fighting hunger is core to our mission at DoorDash, and we’re stepping up alongside leading grocers and retailers to help bridge the gap. We know this is a stopgap, not a solution. But doing nothing simply isn’t an option.”
Around 42 million Americans, around 21 million children, and around five million senior citizens in the country are part of the SNAP program. Those details above are catalysts to smoothening out the processes, since there is this ongoing government shutdown happening.
DoorDash connects customers with local restaurants and delivery drivers through its app and website. Customers browse menus, place orders, and pay directly in the platform. Restaurants receive the order, prepare the food, and a nearby Dasher accepts the delivery request.
Then, the driver picks up the meal and brings it to the customer’s location using in-app GPS navigation. You could track the order status in real-time, communicate with the driver if needed, and rate the experience afterward. The food delivery app also offers options like scheduled delivery, group orders, and no-contact drop-offs.
