Uber Eats Japan Is Going Heroic Yet Funny In New Campaign Featuring Comedian Akihiro Kakuta

Uber Eats Japan did it again! Recently, prices on online food delivery apps matching the prices of the items in-store, or in-store pricing, are getting popular. For instance, when you order on apps like Germany’s foodpanda, you will get a notification that some items available online match the prices in-store, which is great, especially since before, prices of the items on the app are much higher.

So, to present this welL, Uber Eats Japan collaborated with comedian or comedic actor Akihiro Kakuta for an ad as part of the “Eh?!” value campaign of the food delivery app in the East Asian country.

The “Eh?!” campaign is a humorous, integrated marketing campaign by Uber Eats Japan designed to show customers that the app offers a massive selection of everyday items at the same prices as physical in-store shopping

Ai Suzuki, the head of marketing in Uber Eats Japan, told Ridesharingforum.com, “The aim of this campaign is to show busy consumers across Japan that Uber Eats offers an extensive selection of products at the same prices as in-store. Building on the first phase of the campaign, we hope to bring this new level of everyday convenience to life through the humorous reactions of Kakuta-san from the comedy trio Tokyo 03. By showing how people can now have the things they need delivered quickly, at the same prices as in-store, we hope to make this convenience feel both relatable and accessible to consumers across Japan.”

The campaign, which lasts 30 seconds, opens with the comedic actor embarking on a multi-stop shopping spree after work. As he jumps from store-to-store, he meets with strangers and eager passersby sharing the news that Uber Eats items now match in-store prices.

“It’s the same price as in-store on Uber Eats!” says one stranger.

Then, the video snowballs into an eager crowd chasing the character of Kakuta through the streets, spreading the word.

He then turns exhausted, reaches home, and finding his wife is relaxing, as she has ordered their dinner or what they need on Uber Eats. Because of the same pricing!

“Hamburger grandpa gets it,” stated Lisa Fedyszyn and Jonathan McMahon, part of the ad’s creative team. “Balcony baby formula woman gets it. Heck, even that poodle gets it. Now, we hope Kakuta-san and all of Japan get it too. With this latest ad, we’re literally shouting the benefits of Uber Eats from the rooftops, building on the love audiences have for our ‘Eh?’ campaign. We’re proud of what we’ve created together with the Uber Eats team, who always know how to entertain and inform in equal measure.”

The handsome, bespectacled Kakuta is a Japanese comedian, actor, and singer-songwriter. He is part of the famous Japanese sketch-comedy trio Tokyo 03, alongside Satoshi Iizuka and Akinaga Toyomoto, established in 2003.
