Uber Eats, which starred in American football’s biggest glamorous night, the Super Bowl LX, was in Romania for quite a while, until it disappeared in this eastern European market. But now, it’s more than happy to announce it has returned to the original region of vampires. Read on for the scoop.
Welcoming back Uber
Romania is among the countries listed in which Uber and Uber Eats are returning this year, the others being the Czech Republic, Greece, Austria, Denmark, Norway, and Finland.
It was in the year 2018 when Uber Eats was present in Romania, but withdrew in 2020 due to “competitive retooling.” That time, they also pulled back from the Czech Republic, Egypt, Honduras, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay, and Ukraine.
But now, they’re back in the Romanian market with a vengeance.
Courtney Tims, the regional general manager for Uber Eats’ Western and Southern Europe divisions, told Ridesharing Forum, “We are very pleased to expand into Romania and see enormous potential here to make everyday life easier… With our launch, people in Romania will have a new, convenient way to shop from their favorite local businesses at the tap of a button – fast and reliable, as they expect from Uber.”
Tims added that simultaneously with that, the company is looking forward to provide local merchants with a tool to reach more customers, more than ever before, and keep growing their business in today’s digital economy.
This return in Romania belongs to the biggest expansion year in the history of Uber, also following the ridesharing app’s strongest year of growth, ever, on record in Europe last year.
Uber Eats is also the go-to app of people who are looking to satisfy their cravings, but hesitant to brave road traffic out of safety concerns and stresses on the road. With Uber Eats, too, merchants – such as family-run restaurants and retail chains – could gain access to the app’s extensive user base and delivery network, further expanding their reach beyond their physical locations.
The platform provides merchant affiliates with tools that range from data evaluations to marketing support, optimizing operations, and further improving the quality of service. Uber Eats, with this return, is reportedly going to be adapted to the conditions of the Romanian economy, with language support and common payment methods. Oooh.
The context
Previously, the Ridesharing Forum team heard about the news that Uber is returning to not just one, not just three, and not just five, but seven of its key markets in Europe.
Though Uber has not officially confirmed this news, as of this time of research, the company executives are optimistic this will finally happen, saying, “It’s time to raise the bar, shake things up and deliver better value across the category.”
