In Japan, Uber Eats is number one
DoorDash in Japan? Hardly. This is why Uber Eats has cemented itself as the number one food delivery app in this East Asian country. Its rival apps are struggling, because the Japanese people love, love, love Uber Eats so much!
Uber Eats Japan’s lead Yulia Brovkina is telling Ridesharingforum.com, “Our goal is to create a world where people can get not only meals, but whatever they need, whenever they need it. We’ll work to support merchants using data and expand the number of products available.”
In such a country where traveling and driving around the city are as complex as untangling wires, the need for speed, oops, sorry, for Uber Eats, is more than highlighted than ever. In the same news conference, the company revealed consumers could also use their points on Rakuten for orders beginning this month.
Remember that Uber Eats started awarding Rakuten points on orders in December last year, and it is now enabling customers to redeem those points to keep customers engaged. At the very least, Uber Eats isn’t feeling they own something when they don’t.
It was around the beginning of 2017 when Uber Eats launched their systems in Japan. Today, it has 140,000 participating merchants, roughly 1,000 times more than a decade earlier. See the alterations?
"Revenue has continued to grow at a double-digit rate. We aim to achieve a fifth straight year of operating profit in the year ending December next year, okay,” the Uber Eats representative added.
For such a globally-renowned food delivery app, this is a big deal. To be a leading and preferred food delivery app in Japan means a lot. Happy weekend! This is RSF, your newsroom for ridesharing, coupons, food deliveries, business, lifestyle, and so much more! ‘Til then!
