Since when can you pay for your ridesharing rides using your airline travel points? Only Lyft can do that so far.
Lyft and the USA’s United Airlines recently announced a feature that lets travelers and tourists pay for their rideshare through their United Airlines miles.
Under this feature, MileagePlus® members can redeem their miles directly via the official Lyft app for eligible rides. This marks the very first time anywhere in the globe an airline loyalty program and a ridesharing app offered direct mile-to-ride redemptions in the USA, offering travelers the capability to pay using Miles when they got no other option.
Lyft’s partnerships and loyalty division told Ridesharing Forum, “Every ride should move you forward – in more ways than one. Pay with miles means that the miles you’ve earned on your last rideshare can help get you to your next one. We’re proud to be the first rideshare platform to make this possible, and to deepen our relationship with a global leader like United to make the entire journey more rewarding.”
Paying with United Airlines Miles is easy as A-B-C. This feature is available now to all MileagePlus members who have linked their Lyft and United Airlines accounts. If you wish to try this feature, then you can join MileagePlus for free, and linking your account is a breeze.
It works across every eligible Lyft ride types, including daily rides, airport trips, and premium options. Also, consumers can utilize their Miles to cover the complete ride cost or split tenders with their preferred payment method if not enough airline miles are available to cover the full fare.
Simply proceed to your Lyft app when requesting a ride. You can then see how many Miles can be redeemed before the confirmation of your booking. Getting a receipt? A receipt will be given to you after the ride. Fabulous!
“We’re giving MileagePlus members more ways to use their miles – whether it’s booking a United flight to a dream destination or traveling across town to meet up with friends through Lyft,” stated Jarad Fisher, the president of United MileagePlus. “Many MileagePlus members have already linked their accounts with Lyft, showing strong demand for earning miles and more flexible ways to engage with the MileagePlus program.
