Thanks To Uber Eats-Deliveroo Deal, Tesco Accelerates Rapid Deliveries

Is Uber trying to monopolize the food delivery industry? Let’s not put that assumption on the spotlight, and concentrate first on this news that the deal between Uber’s food delivery division, Uber Eats, and Deliveroo, is bringing lots of magic to the food delivery space in the United Kingdom. Here’s the story from RSF news.

‘Thrilled’

Apparently, Tesco – the biggest food delivery retailer in Great Britain – recently announced its plans to launch on Uber Eats and Deliveroo, extending rapid grocery deliveries, Clubcard Prices and Clubcard Points to millions more customers across this Western European country. It’s like your favorite non-food labels launching on food delivery platforms like DoorDash! Except, well, Tesco is a food retailer.

Tesco will start to list its products on the Uber Eats platform and the Deliveroo platform. This newest partnership together with Uber Eats will launch this August, while the partnership with Deliveroo will roll out later this summer season already. This gives Uber Eats and Deliveroo shoppers access to Tesco products.

Saskia De Jongh, the deputy of Uber Eats, told RSF, “As Great Britain’s leading delivery platform, we are thrilled to partner with Britain’s biggest supermarket. Uber Eats reaches over 90 percent of people in the United Kingdom, with more and more people choosing instant delivery for the everyday essentials that keep life moving. We can’t wait to help bring Tesco’s Clubcard Prices and quality products to an even wider range of customers this August.”

Yes, so here’s how the business will work

Well, apparently as well, Tesco won’t make this work directly via its own platform, as there may still be a lack of resources. Instead, it will launch this via its own rapid delivery system, Whoosh. At the very least, it has its own rapid delivery service.

Through Whoosh, Tesco can offer grocery deliveries in as little as 20 minutes from around 1,800 stores, reaching 70 percent of the population in the United Kingdom. Since it launched in 2021, Whoosh has grown so fast, with sales increasing 51 percent in 2025. Over a million customers use Whoosh.

Whoosh responds to the growing customer demand as it offers speed and convenience, plus flexibility. Customers can book same-day delivery windows fitting their schedules, shop without a minimum spend, complete bigger basket shops, and access an expanded range through over 250 larger Tesco stores. Whoosh complements the core grocery home shopping system of Tesco.

The magnificent Ashwin Prasad, the CEO of Tesco Great Britain, stated, “Whoosh has transformed the way millions of customers shop with Tesco, offering speed, convenience, and great value through the power of Clubcard. Launching with Uber Eats and Deliveroo will enable us to bring those benefits to even more customers. Our online business continues to go from strength to strength, and these partnerships represent another important step in expanding our reach. By combining Tesco’s market-leading range, quality and value with the scale of Uber Eats and Deliveroo, we’re making it even easier for more customers to shop with Tesco in the way that suits them best."

To expound that, Tesco shoppers using this brand-new scheme on Uber Eats and Deliveroo may also access the benefits of the Clubcard loyalty program of Tesco, which promotes lower prices as well.

“On-demand grocery is becoming an increasingly important part of many customers’ lives, and we’re delighted to be able to add Tesco to the Deliveroo platform, with the added value of Clubcard Prices and Clubcard points,” stated merchant deputy and chief revenue officer of Deliveroo, Rob Harris.
