As much as there are several things to be grateful for as the Ramadan celebrations this year are soon coming to a close, there are also many reasons for the ridesharing and delivery industries to be thankful. The year 2025 is a very special year for such industries that have courageously participated in this event dear to the Islamic community.
The Ramadan feasts were a success for the ridesharing and food delivery industries, in particular. As the community says, Selamat Hari Raya!
Uber Eats
One of the world’s leading food delivery platforms under the wing of ride-hailing service, Uber, Uber Eats, had been so generous in lieu of this year’s Ramadan celebrations. Ridesharing Forum was part of every action.
Actually, right on the official website of Uber Eats in the United Kingdom, the platform was very vocal about their participation in Ramadan. Uber Eats launched the Open for Suhoor campaign, wherein restaurants extended their opening hours, so Ramadan revelers can easily find meals before dawn during their iftar period.
“Food has always been a powerful way to bring people together, and during Ramadan, this is even more meaningful,” explained Uber Eats. “To help customers find Suhoor options, merchants could add Suhoor badges to the storefront within the app and selected partners displayed special signage on their physical storefronts.”
In addition, Uber Eats also partnered with restaurants to provide discounts for iftar revelers to find meals at reduced prices. Plus, the platform provided free meals to couriers who are praticing the faith.
This wasn’t the first time Uber Eats took a proactive approach to celebrating Ramadan. In 2023, the app strengthened its technologies, using solar calendar data, in particular, to update people about their incoming iftar, so even though they are drawn to their work, they can make sure not to skip this crucial meal of the day.
Actually, the Open for Suhoor campaign only started last year, when Uber Eats tapped several restaurants, if not all, to open beyond their usual closing hours so they could serve those who needed meals at this hour of Ramadan 2024.
Ramadan treats for riders
During Ramadan 2025, not only regular consumers but also riders and drivers could get perks from popular food delivery platforms.
Ridesharing Forum previously reported how Dubai’s Careem offered drivers the opportunity to manage their schedules throughout the celebration of Ramadan. They can pause work when they want to fast or otherwise continue working if they feel they need to.
Furthermore, there’s also Deliveroo’s UAE arm, which supported its riders during this year’s Ramadan by allowing them to take meaningful breaks from driving as they were given the chance to pick up complimentary iftar meals and special Ramadam gift boxes for them to enjoy.
From today’s evening until this Tuesday, the Muslims are celebrating Eid al-Fitr, the religious festivity that denotes the end of the month-long dawn-to-dusk fasting of Ramadan.
