Deliveries are, no doubt, convenient, but they are not always very fast. This is why department store John Lewis has teamed up with the world’s number one food delivery app, Uber Eats, to launch a rapid delivery pilot for consumers who are buying nursery, premium beauty, and gifting products.
Through this partnership, shoppers within an eight-kilometer radius of the John Lewis stores in Leeds and Stratford to order a selection of 150 items directly via the Uber Eats app with items being delivered in as little as 30 minutes. Whoa.
The products sold through Uber Eats will be priced the same as in the stores of John Lewis, as well as in the online and app shops. They will uphold the retailer brand’s “Never Knowingly Undersold” price promise.
This pilot program will also enable companies to comprehend customer demand, purchasing behaviors, and operational logistics prior to a wider national rollout. It will run through to early September.
Uber Eats’ head of retail in the location, Alex Troughton, stated, “We’re seeing significant growth in retail on Uber Eats as customers look to get everything from beauty products and gifts to baby essentials delivered in minutes. By combining John Lewis’ product range with Uber Eats’ technology, we’re helping customers get easy access to everyday items and premium picks alike.”
John Lewis is a UK retail business known for its department stores and Waitrose supermarkets, both operating under the John Lewis Partnership. The unique aspect of John Lewis is its employee ownership model, where all employees, called “Partners,” are part-owners of the business. This model fosters a culture of shared responsibility, decision-making, and profit-sharing
Stella Winklewska, the category lead at John Lewis, told this team, “Our pilot with Uber Eats will make it easier than ever for customers to access the John Lewis products they love, delivered to their location within the hour. It’s an exciting strategic step to reach a new audience, and helps ensure that we’re there for our customers when they really need us – however they choose to shop with us.”
Uber Eats works in three simple ways: Browse, Order, and Track.
- Browse: This app has hundreds to thousands of restaurants to choose from. Upon opening the app, you can scroll through for inspiration or look for a particular restaurant or cuisine. When you’ve found something you like, simply tap to add to your cart.
- Order: When it’s time to order, you will need to input your address, the estimated delivery app, and the price of the order, which includes the tax and delivery fees. Is everything looking right? Then, it’s time to tap Place Order, and you’re done. As for the payment methods, you could use the same as those for your Uber ride.
- Track: Uber Eats won’t leave you hanging. Use the app to follow your order. First, you’ll see the restaurant accepting the order and starting to prepare your meal. Then, when your meal is almost ready, the delivery guy will visit the restaurant to pick your order up. You will see their name and phone for security, as well as be able to track their progress on the map.
“Uber Eats is the easy way to get the food you love delivered,” stated the food delivery app.
