Contrasting news for Uber Eats today. First, the food delivery app has secured a brand-new partnership with a large retailer in Canada. Then, it is predicted recently that Illinois would incur higher delivery prices. Here’s the story.
Illinois to impose higher delivery fees?
The figures on Uber Eats’ market performance do not lie. Expert statistics on Uber Eats reveal that the app has around a whopping 95 million users.
Not only that, but the food delivery app has reportedly generated approximately $13.7 billion in revenue last year, placing it at the top of the lists of the most popular food delivery services. Plus, Uber Eats is present in about 11,500 cities in several parts of the country and perhaps, even the globe. There are over a million restaurants on the app, even.
However, ordering via Uber Eats is still very expensive, even if it is indeed, convenient to get those cravings from here. Statistics also show that the app takes a cut of between 20 to 30 percent of every order. Whoa!
Of course, it must be a win-win situation here. According to a taxpayers’ organization, solons are pushing to charge higher prices whenever you order your Uber Eats in this state. And, DoorDash may be affected, too. Whoa.
Among the chief reasons why the prices could get higher is because of the new taxation policy. Come on!
Uber Eats partners with big Canadian retailer
Meanwhile, in other Uber Eats news, good news this time, Uber Eats has a new partnership, and this is with a big Canadian retailer, Loblaw.
Founded as early as 1919, Loblaw is touted the largest retailer in Canada, operating corporate and franchise supermarkets, pharmacies, and other services under various banners, such as Real Canadian Superstore and Shoppers Drug Mart.
“Uber Eats is giving Canadians more grocery options to choose from and making it easier to get anything they need delivered, whether that’s quick ingredients for dinner, groceries for the week, or important health and wellness needs,” stated Klaas Knieriem, the head of retail for Uber Eats in Canada. “Welcoming Loblaw and its banners to the Uber Eats platform is helping us expand our in-app selection so that we can offer Canadians more convenience and access to the brands they trust and rely on every day.”
Under this deal, Canadians may already shop from select Loblaw banner stores via Uber Eats. All participating locations nationwide will be open on the platform by November 12th.
Participating Loblaw stores, labels, and brands include a wide range: Real Canadian Superstore, No Frills, Maxi, Your Independent Grocer, Real Atlantic Superstore, Loblaws, Zehrs, Fortinos, Provigo, valu-mart, and stores in Newfoundland and Labrador and Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix.
Lauren Steinberg, the chief digital officer of Loblaw, said. “By bringing our grocery, beauty, and health products to Uber’s marketplace, we’re making it easier for customers to get quality products from the brands they trust, delivered right to their door.”
