Yes, the food delivery space may be dominated by one to three key players, namely Uber Eats, DoorDash, and Grubhub, but there are more other food delivery apps around, and so, the competition is fierce, really fierce.
This is why if you’re planning to launch your own food delivery business, or app, then you should not be satisfied with duplicating what the big companies offer, but you should offer something fresh, something fabulous.
Such as what this app known as Olo, also a restaurant ordering software company. It plans on tackling DoorDash and Uber Eats by providing no menu mark-ups. But before that –
Olo is soon launching its very own customer-focused app, that places it in competition with those big food delivery apps.
Olo brands itself as a restaurant technology and digital ordering platform that’s like the geek version of DoorDash.
It is a leading open SaaS platform with professional services, enabling over 800 brands to reach 108 million connected guests from across around 90,000 locations, processing over 3.5 million orders daily on average. It is integrated with over 450 technology partners and affiliates.
“Restaurant technology built to scale. Olo powers the full guest journey – online ordering, payments, delivery, catering, loyalty, marketing, and more – with a unified platform built for restaurant brands,” Olo talks about its brand. “Olo was born out of a simple idea: What if you could order and pay for a coffee from your phone and have it ready upon arrival at the coffee shop? We got to work in 2005, sending text message orders to printers – two years before the iPhone would change the world. While the hospitality industry is still in the early innings of its digital transformation, we remain committed over two decades later to helping restaurants increase orders, streamline operations, and improve the guest experience. Ultimately, we want every guest to feel like a regular with every single restaurant interaction, no matter the size or the complexity of the restaurant brand.” Magic is the middle name!
Their selling point: no menu mark-ups. Simply put, on its official app, consumers will see the same prices that restaurants charge to in-person diners. Conversely, third-party delivery services often charge customers higher menu prices than diners would get at a restaurant.
To put it straight, mark-ups are popular concepts in shopping, or price mark-ups. A menu mark-up is the amount a restaurant adds to the original cost of food and beverages when setting selling prices, covering operating expenses, labor, overhead, and generating business profits. And, mark-ups are flourishing in restaurants. When you order your food online, the delivery fee itself is a mark-up.
So, to find apps like Olo offering no menu mark-ups is enough to attract diners to go for this app, like how InDrive has captured such a huge market from other ridesharing apps, especially in the Asian market, since they allow these passengers to select their driver.
