More Kiwis Choosing To Order Food Through Delivery Apps, So Uber Eats' Revenue Surges!

Kiwis, the official term for the residents and citizens of New Zealand, are preferring to order their food from delivery apps than driving or traveling to the restaurants in-person, and eat out.

These people, pertained to as “time-poor” by New Zealand media outlets, want to get their meals, if they don’t have the time to cook, from food delivery apps.

The result: the revenue or profits of these delivery apps like Uber Eats New Zealand boomed.

Celebrity chef and health advocate Simon Gault stated it’s all about convenience, and that people in this Pacific country are time-poor.

Gault is a New Zealand celebrity chef, entrepreneur, food writer, and TV personality known for becoming part of “MasterChef New Zealand” as a celebrity chef judge, and the host of “Why Are We Fat?” on Prime TV, a three-part documentary exploring this health concern.

He also stated that it is like getting a room service in a hotel, it may be expensive, but it’s more convenient and easier, and people are prepared and more willing to pay for this. For instance, in-room dining and snacks, housekeeping, turndown services, and concierge deliveries.

And, since more and more New Zealanders are willing to pay for food deliveries, the revenue of Uber Eats New Zealand boomed.

In 2024, Uber contributed $1.5 billion to New Zealand’s economy.

“Since arriving in Aotearoa more than a decade ago, Uber has changed the way Kiwis move, eat, and earn – providing flexible earning opportunities for locals and transforming how people go anywhere and get anything. By making transport and delivery services more convenient, safe, and accessible, Uber has made a significant contribution – both directly and indirectly – to New Zealand’s economy at a crucial time for the country,” Uber New Zealand stated.

Not only those, but Uber Eats New Zealand also expanded to over 84 percent of the Pacific country, covering, get this, almost 180 locations already!
