The award-winning Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos admitted it previously with Ridesharing Forum. Grubhub’s ad for Super Bowl LX is going to be surreal. And it did.
When it was officially unveiled during Sunday’s big game, the vibes of the scenes were a mix of “Bridgerton,” Tim Burton, and the modern Baroque period. It’s truly surrealism. Of course, “Batman and Robin” star George Clooney is the star, and it’s kinda interesting to see him on a Burton-esque commercial where Clooney’s demeanor would be more ideal for ads for luxury watches, or perfumes.
The ad takes place at a lavish, long-table dinner party where guests indulge in an over-the-top feast – until the fees arrive. They discuss about it, but it’s basically an announcement that Grubhub will start “eating the fees” – not the feast, or the feest, which is amazing news, a way to attract more orders and customers.
“Grubhub | Big Game 2026 | Who will eat the fees? Grubhub will eat the fees! No delivery fees. No service fees. No more fees on $50+ restaurant orders,” stated the Grubhub official caption on YouTube.
What do the audience think of the ad titled “Grubhub | Big Game 2026 | The Feest”? Well, they were quite impressed.
Comments poured in such as “Yorgos is on a roll,” “Gooble gobble, we accept him, one of us, one of us,” and “Sounds like a good deal for the consumer. Will Grubhub eat the restaurants’ fees too?”
Meanwhile, others are in the details, like the devil, asking, “What about driver pay and tips and minimum pay per mile?”
Well, meanwhile, others would just like to have fun, saying they’re feasting out of control, and how “great” the commercial is.
Lanthimos is a highly-acclaimed Greek screenwriter, producer, and filmmaker, known for his dark comedy films that are thought-provoking and following the surrealism style. His notable works include “Dogtooth,” “The Lobster,” “Poor Things, and “The Favourite.”
This isn’t the first time, though, that Lanthimos is working with a commercial. Previously, the Greek director worked with Prada, together with “Black Widow” and “The Other Boleyn Girl” star Scarlett Johansson.
There’s just one official commercial for did, but fans are created what they call the “extended cut” of the ad on YouTube.
This extended cut is never the official, but people are loving it, nonetheless.
“Is the ‘extended’ version just an inaccurate ai(?) handful of scenes not from the ad?what’s the point,” wrote @kontoatutka in the comments section.
There was even a blonde character that audiences are curious about.
Well, it’s another way to tell Lanthimos, “Bravo!”
These ads are among the elements that make each Super Bowl edition a memorable one, and Grubhub succeeded.
“Grubhub is great, working with Yorgos was fantastic, and I couldn’t be happier to be part of this campaign,” Clooney noted in a press release.
Seriously, the way Lanthimos directed the ad is like how the opening show of the Paris 2024 Olympics went on. For more food delivery news, keep browsing this Ridesharing Forum site.
