Grubhub Goes Surrealism With Its Official Ad For Super Bowl LX - And A Greek Directed It

So that means you’d better prepare some gyros while seeing the ad. Well, the ad has not been released yet, except for the teaser that came out Monday morning.

Some brands partnered with the Super Bowl LX event have unveiled the actual ads, but some others are keeping the ads under wraps, such as Grubhub.

However, on Monday, it’s been revealed that Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, who has worked with various award-winning movies, will be directing the ad.

He’s taking the route of making the Grubhub ad absurdist, surrealist, and genre-defying, according to ridesharing media, similar to what he did in his other works.

Lanthimos, born in he 1970s, is a highly-acclaimed Greek screenwriter, producer, and filmmaker, known for his dark comedy films that are thought-provoking and following the surrealism style. His works include “Dogtooth,” “The Lobster,” “Poor Things, and “The Favourite.”

This isn’t the first time though that Lanthimos is working with an ad. Previously, the Greek director worked with Prada, together with “The Other Boleyn Girl” star Scarlett Johansson, to which the actress expressed Lanthimos should stop working with mainstays and work with her instead.

However, it will be his first Super Bowl ad and Grubhub ad, and upon seeing the ad, you’d easily identify it to be Lanthimos’.

A teaser was unveiled earlier, reading, “This February, one food delivery app will finally put their mouth where their money is.” It is titled “The Final Course.”

In the teaser footage, you see an elaborate dining room table filled with delicious food items with a group of folks hovering over the table, like a group of family and friends during Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. However, they suddenly looked tad suspicious when they saw a certain dish, adding more questions and teasing the fans, of course.

The rest of the ad is still secret, but it’s a new tone for Grubhub.

Lanthimos started his career in Greece directing commercials, music videos, and experimental plays, so this campaign is still right up his alley.

Grubhub is a food delivery app where you could order not only food from restaurants that serve international cuisine and fast-food, but also groceries and so much more. It joins other brands presenting during the Big Game, happening in California this February. The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League to decide the league winner. As the largest sports event in the USA, it features the top teams from the American Football Conference and National Football Conference, known for high-profile halftime shows and expensive commercials.
