NBA Brooklyn Nets small-forward and forward, with the jersey number 17, Michael as you know him, is decrying the tipping culture. No, he’s not in favor of it, especially on Uber Eats.
He dropped the term “Uber Eats!” Oh, he did!
He recently sat down for an interview, and apart from admitting he’s a very, very bad tipper, he suggested that the 20 percent charge has gone a bit far.
First things first, the food delivery app does not officially call it tipping, but commission. It charges a 20 to 30 percent commission per order, depending on your plan.
This covers access to their delivery network, customer base, technology tools – like menu management and order tracking – payment processing, and 24/7 support.
If you are curious what Mr. Porter actually stated, his statement was, “If you’re spending $3,000 on a meal, you shouldn’t have to tip $600, 20 percent. Uber Eats is another thing. If the Uber Eats order is $250, why are you still tipping 20% when they’re doing the same amount of work as if you ordered a $20 meal? They are [still only] bringing the meal to you.”

He was born in Indiana, won his first NBA big win in 2023 before trading to the Brooklyn Nets, where he serves as a primary offensive player. In his college days, he played for the Missouri Tigers, ranking as one of the top prospects in the class of 2017.
