Downtime Haunts Several DoorDash Users This Week - How To Avoid These Incidents

You know which is scarier than Halloween? It’s the downtime of your favorite app, such as DoorDash for food lovers.

Well, right now, on Downdetector, everything is already normal, but during the middle of this week, DoorDash experienced significant issues that affected several users in the USA.

Downtiiime!

The issues on the DoorDash app started appearing at around 9:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.

At the peak of these incidents, there was a massive, a whopping 35,000 reports for DoorDash on the downtime reporting system, with some users even saying they got locked out from the app, unable to make orders.

This went all the way to Reddit where it shows that the issue was widespread not only in a particular place in the United States, but across from Florida to Michigan.

“Does anyone know what’s up with this? I’ve updated the app, restarted my iPhone, and even tried logging out and logging back in. Same error message popping up. I just ordered DoorDash twice yesterday without an issue! Please any suggestions because I’ll die at work today if I can’t DoorDash my food and energy drinks lol (emoji),” wrote the poster.

The comments went like, “It logged me out and now it’s not working, I thought some idiot got me fired,” “In Montana and same happened to me. So just wait for a bit… I’m on hold with customer service for 22 minutes now,” and “Mine is down in Tampa, Florida,” among various others. It really is bad, considering that many people nowadays rely on food ordering.

That time, DoorDash went down for not only consumers, but also drivers, making this even worse, causing widespread worry for those who need their snacks, meals, and energy drinks.

The business implications

That time, a DoorDash user might say, “It’s only a downtime, mom!” But, looking at this as a whole, the scale of these incidents can have huge impacts.

It is impactful especially for a business relying on digital access, quickly affecting user trust and partner expectations.

And then, the impact for the business is also huge. For investors, outages draw attention to operational risks, specifically around technology resilience and redundancy. It also raises questions about how the food delivery app evaluates, reports, and learns from such incidents, including changes in infrastructure or contingency plans that follow.

This downtime also comes at such an awkward, really awkward time for DoorDash, considering its technological investments lately.

Other implications include operational risk side of the narrative, peers challenging the idea of DoorDask keeping on scaling, and lessons on resiliency, redundancy, and incident response not fitting into the narrative.

Ways to avoid downtime

However, there are things that businesses can do to avoid encountering a downtime, such as using reliable hosting, monitoring systems continuously, performing regular maintenance, implementing backup and disaster recovery plans, testing updates before deployment, using load balancing, and maintaing strong cybersecurity measures.

These practices help ensure consistent performance, minimize disruptions, and provide a better user experience. Likey, likey this? For more of these news, sign up for your account on RSF today!
