Media in the Pacific are raving about this former Uber Eats driver who now has his own restaurant. Aside from the fact that his is a success story, saying that Uber Eats earnings shouldn’t be underestimated, what wowed journalists is that, he’s got “zero cooking skills,” but is all over the news for the diner he owns. He must check out the competition around his area, though. Ridesharing Forum has more.
That Uber Eats driver is Venu Jarugula, who reportedly used to pick up and deliver orders from Christchurch, New Zealand’s Little High Eatery. He did that for seven years, and today, he’s left a nice job for an even better work, well, not work really, but making meals in his own restaurant. A businessman!
His restaurant is named Dosa Kitchen, situated at Riverside Market. That was his first, actually. Whoa, not even your favorite fast-food chain owns two restaurants. Recently, he opened Indo Lanka in Little High Eatery, taking cues from his Indian roots and his wife’s Sri Lankan heritage. Make a wish!
His newest restaurant was only launched last Christmas (when he gave you his heart), kidding aside, it showcases the subtle distinctions between two types of food that use practically the same spices. But, who is Jarugula really, and why should you be inspired by this success?
Ridesharing Forum did a bit research on Google to find out that he actually has a Mechanical Engineering degree from St. Ann’s College of Engineering and Technology, just like what most Indians would take as their course. That was from 2009 to 2013, so he’s also fairly young.
He’s also been featured by influencers countless times, with one of them praising this successful entrepreneur for making and serving the biggest crepe in Christchurch, “if not the yummiest.”
Chefs narrate that each dosa in his restaurant is served with three dipping sauces: coconut chutney, tomato chutney, and sambar - a fresh vegetable lentil stew. That’s like introducing Indian or South Asian cuisine to New Zealand folks! Bravo, and beautiful at that.
“Masala Dosa is our top seller. It’s a must try, as it has been ranked [fourth among the foods to] try before you die,” Jarugula told ridesharing media.
And that’s not all. It appears that this Indian businessman does not merely do it because he wants to buy a brand-new car, or he wants a luxury home, or he wants to travel, but for the people closest to his heart.
This Uber Eats-driver-turned-restaurant-owner makes pancakes and dedicates them to his father. Teary-eyed.
For those of you who might say this isn’t an Uber Eats story, it is definitely a ridesharing story for the record. You’ve heard of drivers who complain of not getting enough compensation while driving for these ridesharing apps, but it appears this Uber Eats driver turned gold into even more gold.
