Britain’s Waitrose & Partners Taps Uber Eats To Expand Loyalty Program + A Black-Owned Food Delivery App Overtaking Uber?

Uber Eats will cringe as a Black-owned food delivery app seemingly overtakes its success. Plus, a supermarket chain in Great Britain, Waitrose & Partners, further expands its loyalty program with the food delivery platform. Read on for the scoop!

Loyalty program leveled up!

There’s supermarket or grocery shopping, then there’s supermarket shopping as part of a loyalty program. Isn’t loyalty shopping just wonderful? Not only can you purchase what you need on a day-to-day basis, but you could also access imported and expensive brands at a fraction of the cost.

This is precisely what’s happening now with British supermarket chain Waitrose & Partners as it opens its doors for Uber Eats.

With Uber Eats, shoppers can access offers on grocery orders via the app, after it rolled out its loyalty perks with the platform for the first time ever.

“Our on-demand partnerships have enabled us to bring our quality products to new food-loving customers,” stated Laura Burbedge, a director at Waitrose & Partners.

She added that through this team-up, greater value will be provided to customers who prefer ordering via Uber Eats.

It’s as simple as customers linking their MyWaitrose account to their Uber Eats account, she added. MyWaitrose is your grocery store’s dashboard and tracker.

Currently, WaitRose is not offering any form of loyalty pricing. Instead, shoppers on the store receive a range of coupons personalized for the items they frequently buy, as well a a range of discounts. For instance, 20 percent of cheese counters from Waitrose every Thursday.

This expansion will give shoppers “greater value alongside convenience,” ridesharing media stated.

Threat to Uber Eats?

Meanwhile, there seems to be a recent threat for Uber Eats. And, it’s a Black-owned video-based food delivery app. Yikes!

The app is BiteSight, a wordplay on bite-size, branding itself as the world’s first video-based and video-first delivery app. Instead of scrolling down through the menu of your favorite restaurants, you’ll watch videos of food from local restaurants and wait for it to be delivered right to your doorstep.

BiteSight was founded by a particular Lucious McDaniel IV, and online, it jumped to rank 18 overall in the store and second in the Food and Beverage category, zooming past Uber Eats.

Plus, in just within 24 hours, the video has already garnered three million views! Whoa.

From the video, which you can see here, shared by TikToker @realeater.flou, there’s McDaniel – yes, the founder – and his younger sister Kendall.

They participated in a TikTok trend, but promoted the app. Kendall was saying, “My brother is going to show you the app that he built, and y’all are going to like it.”

Then, cue in McDaniel telling the world about the app. He stated, “Hi, so I built this app, and it’s like TikTok meets DoorDash. You can scroll through videos of food, and you can order anything you see and get it delivered right to your door,” he said in the video that went viral on Juneteenth. So I built this because I wanted to see all my friends’ favorite food delivery spots, and so now I can go to their profile, see the places they liked, and what they rated them. Everything you see, you can get delivered in like 15 minutes. It’s like really cool. Thank you!”
