McDonald’s Korea offers unique items on its menu, from the tasty Bulgogi Burger to the newest Corn Burger.
The McDonald’s Korea Corn Burger has been a heavy favorite amongst Koreans and tourists until recently, when some found “stones” inside, causing the fast-food chain to pull it out from its catalog.
This corn burger features a mozzarella cheese croquette made with waxy corn from Chungju. Chungju is a city in North Chungcheong Province in South Korea. It is known for its rich history tied to early Korean kingdoms, scenic lake views, a yearly-held martial arts festival, and as the hometown of former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
But, it’s official. McDonald’s Korea has ended its sales of this brand-new burger, making it short-lived. This, after several customers reported biting into what they claimed to be tiny stones.
This is interesting since not merely one, but several customers reported the similar experience, so could it be stones from the manufacturing plant?
Launched and offered on July 9th, this corn burger specifically features a deep-fried cheese croquette filled with glutinous corn kernels from Chungju. It has been pulled out, and the original plan of offering this until August 12th has been axed.
Officials from McDonald’s Korea stated that company policy is followed when three or more similar complaints have been received.
The guess whether the “stones” came from the factory isn’t official, since the restaurant is still investigating the source of the reported stones with the growers and suppliers involved.
Was it from the farmlands? The burger was part of the McDonald’s “Taste of Korea” series featuring locally-sourced menu launched in 2021 to highlight the East Asian country’s Korean ingredients, and support the farming communities that produce them.
McDonald’s Korea officials also stated there are no plans to bring back the burger.
