Welcome To Slovenia, Uber!

You could now book Uber rides in Slovenia! Uber cars are now plying along Slovenian roads.

Welcome to Slovenia

The embassy at Ljubljana revealed in a Facebook post that Uber, the world’s largest ride-hailing platform, began operations in Slovenia on Tuesday.

"The City of Ljubljana welcomes Uber to our vibrant community. We are committed to fostering innovation and providing diverse and sustainable transportation options for our residents and visitors,” stated Boštjan Koritnik, Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Ljubljana. “We look forward to Uber’s contribution to the development of mobility in our city, as we believe its presence will bring greater convenience for everyone. We are ready to work together to ensure that this integration benefits everyone who lives in or visits Ljubljana.”

Uber is now a technology partner in the Slovenian ridesharing market, but it is exclusive to licensed local drivers. That is, only professional taxi drivers are allowed to drive Uber cars and offer the services. That being said, those taxi drivers must still use a taximeter, the new Slovenian legislation added.

The authorities also stated Uber will initially operate in the Ljubljana capital first, but, of course, it will expand in the future if supported by local authorities and partners.

How it works

“We are excited to introduce the Uber platform to Slovenia,” stated Uber’s director for Slovenia and Croatia, Morena Šimatić. “By collaborating with local taxi drivers, we are creating a transportation ecosystem that benefits everyone. We offer reliable and convenient options for passengers and new opportunities for drivers. We are committed to becoming a valuable partner in the Slovenian mobile network.”

Uber’s entry into the Slovenian market is long overdue. The platform has already created considerable interest in the country. In the city where it operates, hundreds of thousands downloaded the app last year, even though Uber was not available there at that time.

Now, they can book real rides via the app, access fair pricing, pay cashless, and track their rides in real time.

To book an Uber ride in Slovenia, launch your Uber app and request your first ride. After keying in the destination, the app will present you with a pricing estimation and connect you with a driver available to accept the ride.

You will then be transported to your chosen location in a partner vehicle. Then, after the ride, you can pay the amount indicated on the car’s taximeter. Yes, there is still a taximeter.

After the ride, you may also rate the driver as they can do with you. This way, there’s a community based on respect and responsibility. You can also give Uber drivers praise or tips via the app.

Right now, Uber operates in various European locations, such as Romania, Greece, Croatia, Germany, Spain, and more.
