Virginia’s Old Dominion University Introduces Robot Food Delivery To Its Students

Universities in the United States are doing it – offering online food delivery services for students to benefit from, and this time, robot deliveries even!

Robot food delivery for students

Wouldn’t this cause students to slack off? Well, apparently, just in time for the fall semester, Virginia’s Old Dominion University is introducing robots to students, not to help them ace their quizzes and help them with their homework, but to deliver their food.

The project started yesterday, when students, teachers, and staff got the chance to enjoy their food and drink cravings with robots serving them.

This is made possible with the newest partnership between the school, Grubhub, and Starship Technologies.

It is also historic since Old Dominion University is only one of three universities in the Mother of Presidents state to offer this kind of online food delivery within the campus.

How it works

Shannon Hurt, one of the executives for Campus Life Services at Old Dominion University, told Ridesharing Forum, "We are thrilled to be one of the few universities in the state offering expanded food delivery services on campus. Feedback from students has shown a strong desire for this convenience.”

A commanding fleet of 11 robots will deliver from the seven eateries in the campus, such as Panera Bread, Starbucks, Qdoba, and more. Students and staff may order via their official Grubhub app and track their orders, too, in real-time. Once the robot arrives, they will receive a notification, alerting them it has arrived. Students may avail of freebies when they collect points.

The robots use zero-emission systems, advanced sensors, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to navigate sidewalks, curbs, and crossroads. Interestingly enough, they could operate in the most grueling weather conditions as well. Plus, each robot could carry up to 20 pounds of items and could delivery in within just minutes. So, there are more reasons to order for the rest of the class or for your favorite teachers.

Other Grubhub news

Meanwhile, in other Grubhub news, sourced from the official Facebook page of the app, they are currently offering a tasty fuego Wendy’s deal.

The food offer is BOGO Wendy’s Takis Fuego Chicken Sandwich that’s for sure going to bring hotness to your tongues and appetite.

The meals are available on Grubhub, provided you order a minimum of $20.

Also, you could notice that the official profile picture of Wendy’s on Facebook has changed to a black version of the red-haired, freckled girl. It will remind you of Wednesday Addams, so the Ridesharing Forum team has done a bit of research.

No, Wendy’s is not Wednesday Addams, thank God, though they resemble the same hairstyle. Wendy’s is looking like Wednesday on the restaurant’s social pages because they have partnered with the trending Netflix series to offer “the Meal of Misfortune,” consisting of “Dips of Dread,” four fiery mystery sauces, along with “Rest in 10-Piece” Nuggets, small “Cursed & Crispy” Fries, and a small “Raven’s Blood” Frosty, all in custom packaging designed by Wednesday herself. Yum! Get a taste of this bloody food hell from Wendy’s – not Wednesday – now.
