You’re about to hear something sensitive. You’ve heard stories of people who pepper-spray suspected bad guys out of self-defense, but what will you do when you hear those who pepper-spray DoorDash customers’ food? Yikes! Here’s the scoop.
Viral today
A viral video is currently circulating showing how a DoorDash delivery driver allegedly pepper-sprayed their customer’s order in Indiana. The incident happened last Sunday.
What happened after? The customers, a couple, decried excruciating pain.
Doorbell camera footage revealed a woman with her hair dyed purple, dropping the customer’s order, taking a photo, then spraying the food bag with the pepper spray before slipping her spray back into her jacket’s pocket and leaving.
Previously, Ridesharing Forum reported about a delivery rider who accidentally dropped the food of their customer on the floor, then returned it back to the bag, then leaving.
An investigation has been spearheaded already for the incident.
The sheriff’s office told Ridesharing Forum, “The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a reported incident in which a food delivery driver allegedly sprayed an irritant substance onto a customer’s order before leaving the residence. During the early morning hours of December 7, deputies responded to a local home after the occupants became ill shortly after consuming their delivered meal. The individuals reported experiencing burning sensations in their stomachs, throat, mouth, and nose, and later discovered video footage showing the delivery driver spraying a substance onto the food bag prior to departure.”
‘Horrific’
The victim, a couple, told Ridesharing Forum they did not realize their food had been sprayed with pepper spray until they started eating.
“I noticed my wife had started eating, and she started choking and gasping,” the customer stated. “After she had a couple of bites of her food, she actually threw up. I had a look at the bag and seen that there was some kind of spray or something. The bag had been tampered with. So, I pulled up my doorbell camera and seen that the lady who dropped the food off had actually tampered with it on purpose for some reason.”
Is pepper spray on food poisonous? It could be.
“Pepper spray causes irritation and inflammation, and produces a range of signs and symptoms affecting the eyes, mouth, throat, lungs, and skin,” the National Collaborating Centre for Environmental Health stated in their study.
Pepper spray is used for self-defense, but why would the rider do that?
The victims described the incident terrifying and “horrific,” it almost got them dead.
“It’s horrific,” they told Ridesharing Forum. “We assume it’s pepper spray. That’s more than likely what it is, but now, in this day and age, it could’ve been anything. It could’ve been rat poison. It could’ve been fentanyl. I mean, my wife could’ve been dead.”
Official statement from DoorDash
DoorDash has refunded their order, and terminated and deactivated the rider who sprayed their food, adding that they have “zero tolerance” for this type of behavior.
“We have zero tolerance for this type of appalling behavior,” a DoorDash spokesperson told Ridesharing Forum. “The Dasher in question has been permanently removed from the platform, and our team is standing by to support law enforcement with any investigation.”
However, officials confirmed that while an investigation was conducted, no arrests were made.
