Are you headed to London Gatwick Airport? Then, you will, for sure, see posters all over the airport featuring Uber’s campaign for it. Uber is now the official branding partner of the London Gatwick Airport. Read on for more.
Goodbye HSBC, hello Uber
The London Gatwick Airport tapped Mother to create a campaign for it featuring Uber. The campaign, aptly called “You’re almost there,” includes a vast range of creative branding and practical improvements with the goal of improving the travel experiences of passengers and tourists going to and from the London Gatwick Airport.
It is the second busiest airport in the United Kingdom, welcoming about 41 million passengers yearly. So, the collaboration with Uber is the perfect way to connect with those passengers.
“We aimed to connect Uber with London Gatwick’s broad passenger base, and across the airport, in literally thousands of places, there are messages designed to generate a smile. We hope this lifts journeys to and from London Gatwick,” Martin Rose, the executive creative director of Mother, stated.
Rose added that through elevating the iconic journey line of Uber, as seen by millions daily who use the app, they are guiding to and welcoming travelers at their destination.
Furthermore, Uber is taking advantage of this collaboration to highlight its broader role in multi-modal travel. Multi-modal travel and transportation are broader terms that encompass public transportation, rail and waterways, and bicycle and pedestrian.
This collaboration highlights Uber’s ability to connect passengers to onward journeys, including coaches and trains, via its app. These visuals at the airport were formerly with HSBC.
Visuals, branded assets
The partnership provides over a whopping 2,500 branded assets throughout the airport, such as bridges and passenger walkways. They are featuring photographs from Nick Meek with messaging inspired by traveler insights.
For instance, there is a close-up image of a dog’s nose area with the text, “It’s good to be home.” There is also a close-up image of a person’s chest area wearing buttoned shirt with the text, “Cheating on mum’s bolognese” for Milan Airport. There is also this image of a statue’s rear area with the messaging, “Culture and stuff,” tagging Rome International Airport. The visuals will be in Gatwick until late 2027, media reports say.
“At airports, travellers want to reach their final destination as effortlessly as possible. Our campaign shows them just how close they are, reminding everyone that with Uber, ‘You’re almost there’,” said Maya Gallego Spiers, Uber United Kingdom’s head of marketing.
Passengers and Uber can take them with a mix of humor and sentiment. What’s more, aside from branding, the collaboration also includes practical upgrades at the airport. For instance, there are new wayfinding signages for easier baggage collection navigation to Uber pickup areas, which have been relocated to more convenient spots.
The London Gatwick or the Gatwick Airport is the secondary international airport providing services across London in Great Britain. It is located nearby Crawley in West Sussex, almost 30 miles south of Central London.
