Knock, knock! Who is there! Uber! Uber, who?! Uber is among the global companies urging those governments to prioritize electrification in their economic stimuli. Aside from Uber, there’s also Nestlé, IKEA, and more. RSF joins you in this news.
Over a hundred companies
Uber is among the over 100 global companies urging governments internationally to push electrification at the center of their economic stimuli and strategies.
Aside from Uber, there’s also various brands in the industry – from industrials, consumer goods, transport, to healthcare – such as Nestlé, IKEA, Iberdrola, Volvo Cars, Mahindra Group, Nikon Corporation, and Levi Strauss.
Electrification is actually saving the planet, and saving the world’s resources. The expensive fossil fuel sources, traditionally coal, oil, and gas that most of the global uses, will be replaced with electricity generated from clean energy sources, such as solar, wind, hydroelectric, and geothermal under this approach.
This is after these companies found that fossil fuels increasingly impose a direct cost on competitiveness, supply chains, and investment draftings.
See their statements
Here’s an overview of these brands, to get you a perspective of how large the scope of this initiative, then give you insight. You know Nestlé as a top food company, and IKEA as a leading furniture company. Nikon is a camera brand, and Levi Strauss is a fashion company.
These businesses also released their statements outlining their take on their moves.
Kim Hellström, the senior sustainability climate manager at clothing name H&M, chatted with the RSF team, saying, “To reach the required scale, the transition to electrification notably needs to be accelerated through predictable and enabling policy frameworks.”
This statement represents the view from all the other companies on the list.
Such moves are significant, since these companies’ revenues yearly, combined, amount to around $1.5 trillion. With this scale and brevity, policymakers, investors, and executives at the London Climate Action Week will surely be alarmed and alerted.
