It’s completely okay for your “driver” to sleep in a driverless car, since there’s literally no driver, but a driver in a Tesla ride, certainly for certain, has no right to sleep during the ride. An Uber Tesla passenger caught the driver in the act, sleeping. Here’s the scoop.

With this beautiful a place, it is difficult to miss it on your itinerary. It’s nice to visit Santa Ana via a car, on a roadtrip, right? But if the driver falls asleep, that’s when everything changes.
Even if the Tesla car this tourist was riding to Santa Ana was in full Self-Driving Mode, the driver should not sleep.
The incident
It happened on July 6th, as the complainant shared details and footage of her Uber ride from Yorba Linda to Santa Ana. He narrated and recalled how the driver traveled along the 91 Freeway and onto the 57 and 5 freeways while apparently asleep.
It was around 3:30 a.m., and he noticed that the driver’s head kept bobbing forward and backward, like a sleeping churchgoer inside a chapel.
So, the passenger decided to reach out to Uber, demanded a refund, but was told the incident did not merit a refund.
Thanks to the kindness of the passenger, he preferred not to report this to the police.
Not an isolated case
There are several previous reports of Tesla drivers sleeping, and taking advantage of the Full Self-Driving Mode feature of the car. Self-Driving Mode is like Batman’s automobile or bat-plane in auto-pilot mode.
There was another passenger this July who recorded a mobile video of his Uber driver sleeping during a trip to Costa Mesa along the 5 Freeway.
There were also similar reports of this kind in Los Angeles and Temecula.
Uber does not have official rules specifically for sleepy drivers, but it does have a full-scale terms and conditions on “drowsy driving.”
Meanwhile, or Tesla, drivers in Full Self-Driving must still be attentive, and ready to take control at any moment, or given point in time.
