With Uber, you have to go big or go home. Uber One has reached a whopping 30 million subscribers already, and Uber is investing $100 million more in WeRide to fulfill its promise and goal of bringing robotaxis to 15 cities. Here is the scoop.
30 million subscribers
Uber One has now reached 30 million subscribers, which is among the highest numbers since its founding.
Uber One is Uber’s subscription program that provides plenty of benefits to both Uber rides and Uber Eats orders. It is used for discounts, exclusive offers, and for other perks to its members, available for monthly or yearly memberships. With Uber One, you can get free delivery on orders from Uber Eats, discounts on eligible Uber trips, and other special perks. In other words, it is a one-stop platform to grab the best Uber discounts.
In a media report, this growth in membership drives several long-term benefits for Uber, as members are willing to spend more and try the new services the platform introduces.
“It’s our highest long-term ROI lever by far,” stated Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi.
Khosrowshahi added that Uber One’s membership growth is due to the company’s “very focused on affordability as it relates to delivery as well.”
“Membership essentially is our lowering of prices, with no delivery fee, for example, for members, and for the most loyal customers that we’ve got,” he further went on.
The CEO also said that members tend to offer high retention. They spend three times more than non-members. The membership program, now with 30 million members, is pouring in billions in revenue, along with merchant-funded offers.
$100 million investment
Meanwhile, in other Uber news, Uber has recently revealed it is investing $100 million into WeRide to bring robotaxis to a whopping 15 cities!
WeRide is a commercial-stage global company that develops autonomous driving technologies. It holds driverless permits in China, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and Singapore.
Currently, the company has services in Beijing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Ordos, and Suzhou.
“We are excited to take our partnership with Uber to new heights. Expanding into new cities across multiple continents reflects both companies’ confidence in our technology and our shared commitment to innovative, sustainable transportation solutions,” stated Tony Han, the founder and CEO of WeRide. “This expansion aligns with WeRide’s ambitious strategy for global growth – to make autonomous driving solutions more affordable and accessible to people worldwide.”
The list of cities where the robotaxis are going to be introduced in the next half a decade has not yet been revealed by the media, except for the fact that they will be across the USA and China. Robotaxis are driverless cars.
“Today’s announcement – one of the biggest partnerships of its kind ever announced – is a significant milestone towards realizing the promise of autonomous mobility in more places around the world,” pointed out Dara Khosrowshahi, the CEO of Uber. ”By leveraging Uber’s global scale, operational expertise, and leading marketplace technology, we are thrilled to partner with cutting-edge AV companies like WeRide to help them commercialize their vehicles and bring the benefits of autonomy to more riders.”
