Doesn’t your favorite ridesharing app let you pay cash? According to ridesharing media, Uber is now allowing its passengers to pay in cash. As if it doesn’t before, right? Well, here’s a bit some history.
Before this news, Uber had the following payment methods: credit card, debit card, Google Pay, and PayPal. This time, there’s Uber Cash, which you can choose as your option via the app.
“You can always go the old-fashioned way and pay for an Uber with cash – just select cash payment on the app at any point during the ride,” Uber stated on its official website.
This option to pay in cash is now available to a dozen more cities,” an Uber representative told Ridesharing Forum.
Right now, cash payments are in operation in key cities in the United States, such as Los Angeles, Tampa, San Diego, Jacksonville, and Florida. Laredo, Texas, also now lets you pay Uber in cash.
With this new or returning feature for some, passengers can launch their Uber app to request a ride and pay the driver in cash when they reach their destination. Sure, this is old-school, but still, there are passengers who see this as more convenient.
But, here’s the caveat
However, while this offers a lot of advantages, some drivers see this as an opportunity for thieves to take their cash in hand anytime.
Since this works like the payment scheme of traditional cabs, where drivers literally have stashes of cash in hand, some Uber drivers believe they’d be a target for robberies.
Over on his gig driver advocacy blog and YouTube channel, Sergio Avedian is concerned that drivers holding a lot of cash in hand could become a target for criminals, further noting that this has been happening in New York City.

But Uber responded: “We believe transportation should open doors for everyone. Yet the truth is, not everyone has access to a bank account or credit card – and some riders simply prefer paying with cash.”
Uber pool truck rental in Miami
The summer heat continues to affect South Florida, despite the onset of the fall season already, but Uber and Turo, a car rental service in the USA, have started offering users the chance to rent a truck with a pool in the bed.
However, this service will become available for a limited time only in Miami from August 30th to August 31st.
As part of the free rental, users will have two hours of “personal poolside fun,” which includes several amenities, such as a dedicated “pool boy,” popsicles, music, a take-home summer essentials kit, and a $300 discount on users’ next Turo rental on Uber Rent. Wonderful!
