When food delivery and ridesharing apps partner in the most fun and unique ways with other brands, you’ll realize how trivial these partnerships are when you hear that Uber has partnered with Zomato for as simple as, safer roads. Here is the story.
Uber and Zomato, an online food ordering and delivery service headquartered in India – also hailed the number one food delivery app in the South Asian country – has forged a landmark deal with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan, which is a road safety campaign across the nation, urging people not to rush, and to arrive safe to where they are going.
“With millions of trips and deliveries happening daily, we are putting our scale to work to make road safety a shared habit across India,” Uber stated on its official newsroom.
It was in New Delhi where the campaign was announced, in the presence of dignitaries, such as road transport and highways minister, writer and poet, the CEO of Zomato, and the safety operations head of Uber India and South Asia.
“Together, we aim to influence behaviour at scale by encouraging drivers and delivery partners to follow traffic rules, and reminding riders and customers not to pressure them into rushing,” Uber noted. “Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and every safe choice helps save lives.”
This campaign is interesting, since there are happenings on both sides. Over at Uber, they are rolling out their Road Safety Pledge for drivers, steeping up their investments in educating drivers.
“We continue to build awareness among riders through industry-first safety features like Speeding Alerts, RideCheck, rear seatbelt reminders, helmet verification for Moto, and 24×7 access to a Safety Line and SOS button linked to police control rooms,” Uber explained.
Drivers across various car categories are protected by insurance, while riders could opt in for affordable accident covers.
Over at Zomato, they reiterate the way they enforce safety before, during, and after trips.
“Delivery partners undergo mandatory briefings and take a daily safety pledge, receive real-time weather alerts and precautionary nudges, and have access to 24×7 SOS support with ambulance dispatch,” Uber spoke about Zomato.
Plus, there will also be comprehensive insurance that will provide more protection, while partners who uphold road discipline or act as first responders are celebrated and recognized.
The road transport and highways ministry has just expressed their delight about this undertaking.
“Road safety is among our nation’s most critical priorities. This initiative is aimed at saving lives by fostering safer driving habits across the country,” they further stated. “We welcome the support of companies like Zomato and Uber, whose collaboration helps extend this message to millions of Indians in their daily journeys.”
This is part of India’s goal of reducing road fatalities by 2030. More food delivery and ridesharing news when you share this around with your family and friends online!
