If the extra income you earn as Uber driver isn’t yet enough, then Uber has thought of more ways for you to earn more. Uber drivers are also artificial intelligence data labelers in India. Let’s take a look.
Artificial intelligence data labelers
AI data labeling is defined as the process of identifying and tagging data samples typically used to train machine learning models.
People who do data labeling annotate and tag raw data, which include images, texts, audios, and videos, for ML model training. This process provides the labeled samples necessary for supervised learning, letting AI models learn patterns and make accurate predictions on new, unseen data.
These data labelers use specific guidelines to categorize, classify, or highlight information, with accuracy and attention to detail being the vital skills for the role.
This time, Uber is giving a chance for its drivers to also perform data labeling so they could earn extra income.
That is, if those drivers are interested in this task.
Well, they got no choice since they got the opportunity to earn by annotating data or labeling data during downtime on the road.
For ridesharing media, this has turned Uber into an AI training ground as well. This announcement that drivers in India could earn some extra money via data labeling for AI systems represents a direct assault on the rapidly expanding data labeling industry.

However, it is clear that this move is positioning Uber over a million Indian drivers, or providing it with more workforce.
Germany’s robotaxis: The testing phase
Meanwhile, in other ridesharing news, Uber is working together with China’s Momenta to test robotaxis next year.
A robotaxi is a self-driving vehicle for an on-demand ride-hailing service, operating without a human driver. These autonomous cars, equipped with sensors and artificial intelligence, transport passengers to their destinations after being ordered via an app, similar to traditional taxis but without a human behind the wheel.
“Germany has shaped the global automotive industry for more than a century, and now Munich will help shape the future with autonomous vehicles,” Dara Khosrowshahi, the CEO of Uber, told Ridesharing Forum.
Momenta is a business that operates a robotaxi service in Shanghai, providing its autonomous driving technology to key automakers, which include German brands like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi.
This is not the first time that a United States ridesharing firm that tied up with a Chinese company. Lyft has partnerships with Baidu to deploy robotaxis in Germany and Great Britain.
However, this legitimate project still needs approval from regulatory authorities prior to operations. Ridesharing Forum is on the loop and will share updates once they are available.
