Ah, the Uber GO-GET show. GO-GET is a global product event of the number one ridesharing app held yearly, and is where they announce brand-new and innovative features designed to streamline trave and daily errands.
If Samsung has the Unpacked event, and Apple has the WWDC, Uber has the GO-GET show.
“Life is about living in the moment. To help you be there, we design everything we create to give you time back and make your journey seamless. Discover all the ways we do that by checking out our biggest product showcase ever,” Uber said in a statement.
Uber x Expedia
The biggest and the most unforgettable moment that happened in this year’s GO-GET is Uber’s newest partnership with Expedia.
Expedia allows users to book flights, hotels, vacation packages, car rentals, and cruises. Think of this as Viator, but without scams and credit card thefts.
The Uber app and Expedia will offer almost 800,000 hotel bookings for consumers in the USA, with plans to add home rentals via Vrbo later this year. Interestingly enough, the CEO of Uber, Dara Khosrowshahi, was previously part of Expedia.
On the Uber app, you can find the newest hotel icon, the catalyst from which consumers can browse accommodations using filters, such as Price, Ratings, and Amenities.
Not only those, but members of Uber One also are entitled to a 20 percent discount on a shifting group of hotels and 10 percent back in Uber One credits. Uber’s gonna take on the world!
This puts Uber in direct competition, too, with the travel booking space, which is dominated by platforms, such as Booking Holdings and home rental app, Airbnb.
“Travel should feel effortless, and this partnership gets us one step closer to offering a seamless traveler experience,” stated Expedia Group. “By connecting our two-sided marketplace with Uber, we’re bringing Uber rides directly into the Expedia app and Expedia Group’s lodging inventory into the Uber app through our Rapid API technology. Together, we’re helping travelers spend less time planning and more time having fun!”
Incredible surprises
Also interestingly, this year’s Uber GO-GET never focused on championing driverless cars. Instead, Uber leveraged the show for its annual product showcase to feature fresh verticals, such as shopping and hote bookings, all happening within the American super-app.
So, there are driverless cars, freight, chauffeur services, and skiing. That’s right. The company also provided more details into its expanded grocery delivery services, as well as tied up with Joby Aviation to offer all-electric air taxis.
These newest travel partnerships aim to simplify and take away the stresses from the travel experiences of Uber’s consumers.
“Uber is already the go-to platform for global travel,” Khosrowshahi noted. “If we’re the first app that you open when you get into your city, it’s only natural for us to try to make the entire trip, the entire experience, simpler.”
By the way, Uber is also following what’s trendy by introducing AI into your ridesharing bookings. Way to go, Uber!
