Uber Gearing Up To Take Over Glovo Morocco In Whopping $15 Billion Deal With Delivery Hero

German multi-national online food ordering and food delivery company Delivery Hero is showing some aggressiveness nowadays as it is the one making the news. Uber is poised to take over Glovo Morocco, thank you to a deal worth $15 billion. RSF has the details.

Glovo Morocco

To provide context for this story, Glovo Morocco is a Morocco-based Internet ordering and home delivery platform that operates in several cities. It allows customers log-in a mobile app or website to quickly get not merely meals, but also groceries, small packages, and even medicines right to their doorsteps.

In a deal precisely amounting to $14.8 billion, Uber will reportedly acquire Delivery Hero, placing Glovo’s Moroccan operations under its ownership, re-shaping the food delivery market across dozens of countries. Delivery Hero does business with Glovo.

It was last July 16th when the two companies announced this agreement, expanding the world’s biggest delivery platform to 99 countries further, with a combined pro-forma gross merchandise value of $236 billion in 2025. Uber is to pay Delivery Hero shareholders an amount per share in cash.

Glovo Morocco is among the 50 markets that Uber is acquiring, together generating $42 billion in gross merchandise value the previous year.

Those Glovo markets include operations in Tunisia, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Italy, Ukraine, and several Balkan and Central Asian countries. They also include platforms like talabat in the Gulf and Egypt, foodpanda across Asia, PedidosYa in Latin America, HungerStation in Saudi Arabia, and Baedal Minjok in South Korea. So, the acquisition is really big.

Expansion

With this deal, the huge market of Uber even doubles, from 34 to 58, expanding its food delivery network from those 50 to 99 markets.

Dara Khosrowshahi, the CEO of Uber, stated, “By bringing our platforms together, we will extend affordable, reliable delivery to many millions more people.”

Also under this deal, Delivery Hero is slated to sell its businesses to 14 markets to a New York City-based investment firm, SSW Partners, for $1.64 billion. But that does not mean it is closing its operations, of course.

That package covers Glovo operations in Spain, Portugal, Poland, Romania, and Moldova, foodora in Austria, Czechia, Norway, and Sweden, efood in Greece, foody in Cyprus, PedidosYa in Chile and Ecuador, and Yemeksepeti in Türkiye.

The executives at Delivery Hero framed this sale, a matter of scale.

Kristin Skogen Lund, chair of its supervisory board, called this partnership the the right move in order to secure competitiveness in the future, saying, “The food delivery business is highly competitive and scale dependent.”

Meanwhile, executive and co-founder Niklas Östberg described the agreement as a next chapter after 15 years of building the company, he told RSF.
