Uber Canada Offers Their Support For The Indigenous Procurement Marketplace

Data linked from Statistique Canada indicates that the indigenous population in the North American country comprises almost 1.9 million. Among the institutions that bring in initiatives to take care of these people and their interests is the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business.

The Canadian Council for Indigenous Business is a nationwide, non-partisan, non-profit member-based institution changing the business landscape for these people. Their members include indigenous businesses, communities, indigenous community-owned economic development corporations, and companies operating in Canada.

With the enhanced marketplace, there will be additional features, such as:

  • Wider visibility for Certified Indigenous Businesses within a dedicated environment
  • Easier pathways for Certified Indigenous Businesses to connect with buyers
  • Consolidated view of the latest procurement and bidding opportunities across corporate Canada and government

For buyers who are advocating the marketplace, there will also be brand-new search tools to let them filter suppliers according to product or service type, geographic location, or NAICS code, as well as share procurement opportunities directly to the marketplace.

Natalie Adams, Canadian Council for Indigenous Business’ Director of Supply Change, added: “We approached the update of the Indigenous Procurement Marketplace with the intention of making it easier for Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesses to find each other and partner for procurement opportunities. When suppliers and buyers can connect without barriers, opportunities open up more naturally and relationships form in a way that supports lasting growth.”

Indigenous procurement – being the practice of buying items, services, and other products from indigenous-owned businesses and organizations – has the marketplace available to the members of the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business at zero-fees and combines over 1,700 Certified Indigenous Businesses and 170 corporate buyers for vendor connections.

Furthermore, this marketplace also paves the way for a straightforward path for these Canadian indigenous businesses to engage with such diverse and sustainable supply chains.
