Crown Taxi, one of Taiwan’s local taxi companies, is entering into a Renaissance era this time it has been acquired by Uber. Yes, Uber.
Recently, Uber Taiwan has signed an agreement to acquire Crown Taxi, which reinforces the vision and goal of the world’s number one ride-hailing app to invest in Taiwan and strengthen its collaboration with the local economy, starting with its taxi industry.
However, note that Uber Taiwan has long been in partnership with Crown Taxi – since 2017, just a few years after it was founde din 2011.
Uber Taiwan spoke with ridesharing media, saying their brand perfectly complements fleet dispatchers like Crown Taxi. They added that this acquisition, which is on its way to finality, aims to create a more seamless experience for the drivers of the taxi company while expanding Uber Taiwan’s services to more riders, especially in the regional areas with limited transport options.
Once fully approved, Uber and Uber Taiwan will work closely with the management and drivers of Crown Taxi, of course, but to ensure transition will be smooth. This acquisition is set to be seen aligning with the structure of Uber with other ridesharing apps. Uber is a company that has several companies under its wing.
“We will continue to collaborate with our partners to support the taxi industry by leveraging Uber’s technology,” Uber stated. "After more than 10 years partnering with the industry in Taiwan, we’re excited to be taking this new next step with Crown Taxi. This acquisition highlights our commitment to innovation and to working with Taiwan’s taxi industry to bring more mobility options to more people across Taiwan. It will enable stronger collaboration with the Taiwanese government on community and social impact programmes, while Crown Taxi drivers will benefit more from streamlined onboarding to the Uber platform.”
Uber recognizes how “Taiwan is one of the most competitive, thriving e-hailing markets, and the Crown Taxi acquisition is a sign of Uber’s continued commitment to investing” in the East Asian nation.
The CEO of Crown Taxi stated, "We are proud to join forces with Uber, a global leader in mobility innovation. This acquisition will provide the fleet and its drivers with access to new opportunities, all while maintaining the strong reputation and service that Crown Taxi has built over the last 13 years.”
For financial experts, extra care must be on the line.
Maharathi Basu wrote on Yahoo! Finance, “While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, the acquisition is indicative of Uber’s long-term commitment to the market of Taiwan… With this acquisition, Uber expects to offer Crown Taxi’s professional drivers a more seamless work experience while boosting ride availability in regions with limited transportation options. By integrating Crown Taxi’s fleet and operational network, Uber is positioning itself to better serve Taiwan’s evolving mobility needs.”
