Tripartite Team-Up Between Uber, Lucid, Nuro On ‘Global Robotaxis’ Unveiled During CES 2026

Usually, a company would partner with another company in a dual tie-up, but these tri-partnerships are rare. Yet, they are very powerful.

Such as the thing that happened between the international’s number one ridesharing app Uber, electric automaker Lucid Group, and autonomous driving technology developer Nuro did recently during CES 2026.

The goal of the partnership? To introduce “global robotaxis.”

The CES is among the biggest events in the tech industry. CES stands for Consumer Electronics Show, the world’s largest yearly trade show for consumer technology affairs held in Las Vegas every January.

It started January 6th this year, and once again, big brands, tech companies, retailers, and the media gathered to unveil and see new products, innovations, and future trends. CES acts as the premier global platform for the tech industry to connect and do business.

The three companies were present during the first moments of the event to launch a production-intent robotaxi based on the Lucid Gravity SUV.

That’s Lucid’s part. Each vehicle is bound to get outfitted with Nuro’s autonomous driving technology and an in-cabin passenger experience, care of Uber.

Uber’s Sarfraz Maredia, the head of global autonomous mobility and delivery, stated about this partnership, “Uber is proud to partner with Lucid and Nuro to bring a state-of-the-art robotaxi to market later this year. By combining leading expertise in electric vehicles, autonomy, and ride-hailing, we’re building a unique new option for affordable and scalable autonomous rides in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.”

It has been said that these vehicles will be initially deployed in the San Francisco Bay Area later within this 2026 year. However, testing of the robotaxis actually already began last month. Nuro led the testing procedures.

Partnerships between these three companies have been ongoing since before. Lucid started a $300 million investment with Uber last September 2025 to add up to 20,000 Gravity robotaxis to its ridesharing app over the next six years, catering to global consumers.

“Our engineering, range, and interior comfort offer a unique platform, and when combined with Nuro’s technology and Uber’s scale, we are collectively building an experience like no other,” Lucid’s Kay Stepper told Ridesharing Forum.

Some of the renowned features of the vehicle include:

  • High-resolution cameras
  • Solid-state LiDAR
  • Radar that provides 360 degrees of perception for autonomous driving
  • High-performance compute platform based on Nvidia’s DRIVE AGX Thor system-on-a-chip with real-time AI processing
  • In-cabin with interactive screens for trip personalization
  • Heated seats
  • Climate controls
  • Audio system
  • In-vehicle visualization screen for better navigation
  • Integrated LED lighting
  • A feature for contacting customer support or requesting the vehicle to pull over during emergencies

In other words, safety is also considered an essential factor.

“By bringing together Nuro’s proven level 4 autonomy, Lucid’s advanced vehicle architecture, and Uber’s global reach, we’re building a robotaxi service designed for real-world operations and long-term growth,” stated Dave Ferguson, the co-founder and co-CEO of Nuro.
