A Hollywood star from Australia has partnered with Uber to donate clothes for the less fortunate. And, Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick is already a citizen of Saudi Arabia. Read on for the scoop.
Cody Simpson
He was the voice of the song “La Da Dee” from the hit animated movie, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,” telling the story of an inventor who thought he had built a machine to end the town’s food crisis, when the machine works out of control, and instead turns rainfall and tornadoes into gigantic food.
This time, Simpson is giving back, as he partners with Uber to donate clothes to the less fortunate.
He has teamed up with Uber and the Australian Red Cross, as he takes part in the seventh yearly Uber x Red Cross Clothing Drive. This event and this campaign will culminate this October 18th, with Simpson being no other than the official endorser.
“Like many people, I’ve explored different eras with my fashion throughout the years. Some of these outfits have been in music videos, while others were part of a very different kind of journey. The idea that someone else will now be able to wear them and give them a new life is what the Uber x Red Cross Clothing Drive is all about – letting go and giving back in the process,” the star, who is also a swimmer, told ridesharing media.
Uber is delighted about this partnership, of course, stating how the event has “built a strong legacy,” with Australians, not just Simpson, donating big and big volumes of clothing annually.
“After last year’s quality-focused message struck a chord, we’re fully committed this year to elevate that narrative even more – it’s not just about donating more, it’s about donating better,” Uber’s marketing manager and campaign lead, Sally Luff, told Ridesharing Forum. Cody Simpson brings both relevance and authenticity, he embodies the variety of fashion eras many of us lived through… With Uber, we’re finding ways our technology can keep giving back at scale.”
Meanwhile, the director of marketing, communication, and customer experience for the Australian Red Cross, Kira Reed, emphasized how quality donations are central to what their team does.
"This year’s Uber x Red Cross Clothing Drive isn’t about just clearing wardrobes, it’s about encouraging Australians to donate better, with quality items that deliver real impact,” Reed pointed out.
Kalanick already a citizen of Saudi Arabia
