This Weekend, Ride Lyfts For Free In Northern Virginia

For the celebration of the much-awaited St. Patrick’s Day, Lyft is advocating for taking you home safely by providing free rides from Saturday, March 15th through Monday, March 17th.

Thanks to the Washington Regional Alcohol Program, these free Lyft rides are made possible. Here’s the story.

Free Lyft rides

Nothing could be better than hearing the good news on Lyft’s free rides in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. This is an opportunity to get to your errands without having to spend for the ride.

The program is known as WRAP’s 2025 St. Patrick’s Day SoberRide program, and it hopes to prevent drunk driving in the area.

Kurt Erickson, the president of the program, released Lyft’s official statement, saying, “Nearly half of U.S. traffic fatalities during St. Patrick’s Day involve drunk drivers, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.”

This was the inspiration for the free rides.

How to access

To access the free ride program, remember that the rides will be available from 4 p.m. local time, then half a day from then during those said dates. You must be over 21 years old to be eligible.

Once eligible, download the Lyft app and visit the SoberRide website to get the code. Then, key in the code in the “Payment” tab under the “Add Lyft Pass” option.

Find the code released at 3 p.m. local time on Saturday. It is valid for up to $15 off one Lyft in the coverage areas.

Surprise, surprise, this program has been going on for quite some time. During last year’s St. Patrick’s Day weekend, over 500 residents used the SoberRide Lyft program, which has sponsors that include Enterprise, Corona, Budweiser, Giant, and Glory Days Grill. To date, these programs have provided, get this, over 93,000 safe rides for individuals in Northern Virginia and surrounding areas.

About St. Patrick’s Day

Key areas in the world celebrate St. Patrick’s Day every March 17th. It is a national holiday in Ireland to celebrate the cultural Irish heritage, through parades, green fashion, and festivities, honoring St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.

St. Patrick’s Day is also celebrated in the United States and is quite popular there. St. Patrick was a fifth-century missionary to Ireland, credited with bringing Christianity to parts of the nation.

Other Lyft news

Meanwhile, in other Lyft news, are you a senior citizen using Lyft and finding it hard to navigate the app? Well, the hard days are over, as this ridesharing platform is considering launching a streamlined ride-hailing app designed for seniors later this year, featuring a new look so simple seniors won’t find it difficult to get that ride again.

“We’re actively exploring fresh ways to enhance the Lyft experience for an even wider range of riders,” a Lyft spokesperson told ridesharing media.

With several customers of Lyft in this age group, they no longer have to rely on their children or grandchildren when they need to find a ride.

Lyft is a ridesharing company and platform that connects riders with drivers using a mobile app. It offers various vehicle services and carpooling options. It works almost similarly to Uber.
