If you take the Northern Lights seriously, the Northern Lights are going to take you seriously. This iconic event in the skies of the Northern Hemisphere is a must-see for every traveler visiting these areas.
However, heading to the Northern Lights isn’t as simple as taking the taxi to Disneyland in Paris, or the train to Times Square. First, you’ve got to make sure the Northern Lights are going to appear on the day or night you intend to visit, and second, you’ve got to be on the right spot. Sure, the Northern Lights can be seen from various places in Europe, and in North America, but certainly is key.
When everything has been set and planned, sooner or later, you could simply order a ride on Uber to take you to the spots where the Northern Lights are. Easy-peasy.
Fake news? Absolutely not. Vogue Scandinavia is perhaps the most excited.
“For many of us, calling an Uber is firmly embedded in our lifestyles – perhaps you’re on your way to the airport, or heading home in the wee hours of the morning after a night out. Running late for that dinner with friends across town? Catch an Uber. Whatever the occasion might be, the app has become a trusted sidekick for getting from point A to B quickly and smoothly, all at the touch of a button,” wrote its correspondent, Linnéa Pesonen.
This March, Uber is launching services to take passengers to Finnish Lapland, where they could see the Aurora Borealis, the other name for the Northern Lights.
The name of the ride? Uber Aurora.
So, how does it work?
The Uber trips will take place during the spring equinox, or the best times of the year to spot the Northern Lights. Don’t worry because it’s there, and doesn’t leave you. The dates are March 20th and 21st.
Experience provider Arctic GM will carry them out, partnering with Uber. Arctic GM has seasoned experts to lead the expeditions.
Each Uber Aurora reservation includes pick-up and drop-off rides around Rovaniemi, which the total hours of the ride taking up to eight hours. Just like what tuk-tuk drivers in Southeast Asia would provide, there are snacks and hot beverages to keep you fueled and warm throughout the trip. Is it also free bottled water? Most likely.
Don’t fret when Ridesharing Forum says that believe it or not, these rides are for free, but you’ve got to be able to reserve your slot. Hurry, because there are only limited slots available.
“Seeing the Northern Lights is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many visitors,” Alexander Rytilahti, the Arctic GM manager, told ridesharing media. “We’re excited to combine our local knowledge with Uber’s platform to give guests the best possible chance to experience the aurora in a comfortable, easy, and safe way.”
