This Amazon Delivery Driver Is Being Accused Of Leveraging Facebook Marketplace To Sell Stolen Packages

There are three odd things at play right here: the Amazon delivery driver stealing packages, the “neglect” of Meta on stolen items on Facebook Marketplace, and the bigger rationale behind this. Here’s the scoop.

Luis Sanz-Lolo, a 29-year-old Amazon delivery driver, was arrested Wednesday at the Amazon warehouse after allegedly stealing over $17,000 worth of packages and selling those items on Facebook Marketplace.

Facebook Marketplace is a feature on Meta’s Facebook that allows users to sell products. Customers may also access these pages to buy those products, of course.

Deputies from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office responded to the warehouse just before 1 p.m. local time after a reported internal theft.

Loss prevention specialists told deputies that the company’s regional investigation department has identified Sanz-Lolo as the culprit in this mess after several customers complained their packages were never delivered.

During an internal review, investigators told Ridesharing Forum they found several of the customers’ undelivered items advertised for sale on the thief’s Facebook page on Facebook Marketplace.

The Amazon delivery driver was already brought into the office for questioning, where he admitted he took packages during his delivery route, and sold them to friends and associates on Facebook Marketplace. The total amount of those packages was exactly $17,340.80.

Jail records reveal Sanz-Lolo is facing one count each of third-degree grand theft and dealing in stolen properties.

On Thursday morning, he appeared in bond court, where a judge placed the driver on an immigration watchlist or hold following the setting of his bond at $3,000. He was also ordered to stay away from the Amazon warehouse where the incident happened.

His arrest came after another arrest for grand theft of Andy Manuel Garcia Machado of southwest Miami-Dade, also 29 years old.

Well, Meta is firm on prohibiting the sale of stolen items on Facebook Marketplace.

“Selling stolen items isn’t allowed on Marketplace and goes against our Commerce Policies. If you see an item on Marketplace that you think was stolen, we recommend that you contact your local law enforcement,” Meta stated.

Meta is encouraging those who spot stolen items on the Marketplace to report them to authorities.

Amazon is yet to release its official statement regarding this incident. For more delivery news, keep browsing this Ridesharing Forum website.
