It seems only yesterday, but it’s soon going to be the Winter Olympics, slated to happen in Italy starting this February 6th, 2026. Uber is among the companies that were unveiled to be the official partner.
This week, the agreement between the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation and Uber was announced. Under this deal, over 5,000 drivers will assist facilitating travel for the millions of guests flying to Italy to witness the games. Uber is already the official ridesharing sponsor of the sporting event – following this announcement – integrating its platform into the vast logistical network of the event.
"With Uber’s arrival, services grow and quality improves. Italy will welcome an extraordinary number of visitors, and for the Organising Committee, it is essential to offer every possible travel alternative,” Nevio Devidé, chief revenue officer of Milano Cortina, broke their silence about the sporting event.
Surprise, surprise, just a few moments after the deal was announced, the framework to be implemented is already arranged. Why shouldn’t it be when it’s Uber, the number one ridesharing app in the world?
With around 5,000 local drivers, Uber will make its service available across the four main competition clusters of the Winter Olympics, allowing smooth and coordinated transfers between venues. The initiative is expected to serve the locals and visitors, providing rides through the app and exclusive pick-up and drop-off zones at Olympic venues.
Furthermore, this also complements the new railway services and upgraded metro lines in Milan, as well as improved tram and bus routes, forming an interconnected system designed to guarantee smooth transport during the Games.
If there are trains, there are buses. There will likewise be red-liveried Trenitalia reinforcement buses, visible even from southern Italy. Operating within the network of the state-private hybrid company leading the nation’s rail transport, these vehicles are poised to support ground connections and passenger transfer in-between the destinations of the sporting event.
The Winter Olympics is the cold season version of the Summer Games. That year, ski mountaineering will be introduced as a Winter Olympic sport. The first Winter Games were held in France in 1924. Loving this story? Share this article around online with your friends and relatives.
