There is no impactful ad without great sound, just like your favorite flick. During Super Bowl LX, leading food and grocery delivery app Grubhub wowed international audiences with their ad directed by award-winning Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos and featuring award-winning actor George Clooney. It even bested the commercials from Uber, to say the utmost least.
Well, this hardwork actually took a village to produce, and it is never easy. Just like how the best movie gathers a team of talented staff, taking care of the production, the direction, the costume, the music, and the story, and whatnot, the same goes for these Super Bowl ads.
The credit for the amazing sound of Grubhub’s Super Bowl LX ad goes to Wave Studios New York, which also took care of the commercials of brands such as Squarespace, Cadillac, Kinder Bueno, Coinbase, and InvestAmerica.
Perhaps this is the first time you’ve heard of Wave Studios New York, but they’re pretty much very high-profile. Wave Studios is an internally-renowned BAFTA-winning and Oscars award-winning audio post-production team in the Big Apple. So, no wonder that the quality of the ads they created for Super Bowl LX is like watching a big flick.
“Super Bowl work pushes everyone creatively, there’s nowhere to hide,” Aaron Reynolds, the partner and ECD sound designer and mixer in Wave Studios New York, told Ridesharing Forum. “Having six spots on air in one year speaks to the depth of our team and the trust our clients place in us. We’re incredibly proud of the craft that went into every frame and every second of sound.”
So, across those six brands and their campaigns, the award-winning sound design studio brought a far-reaching range of creatives – from bold, cinematic tone to precision-driven sonic branding, led by Reynolds and Chris Afzal on spots for certain brands, such as Cadillac, Kinder Bueno, Coinbase, and InvestAmerica.
Each reflected to capability of the sound design studio to shape emotional impact through sound, while seamlessly laying down support for each brand’s visual language. A challenge is making sure that the sound design for each of those brands would be unique, not the same.
Vicky Ferraro, executive producer in Wave Studios New York, also told Ridesharing Forum, “What excites me most is how sound is being treated as a lead creative voice, not just a finishing layer. These campaigns are bold, emotional, and distinctive, and our role is to help the agencies and directors fully realize that vision through audio. Seeing Wave’s work resonate on the world’s biggest advertising stage is incredibly rewarding.”
Since their launch in 2018, Wave Studios New York has delivered works that deserve a standing ovation for leading worldwide brands, such as Google, Airbnb, Xbox, The New York Times, and OpenAI, each earning awards in their own niches.
But true masterpieces do not really depend on awards like the Oscars. It’s all about making that three-point shot to perfection. Will the world see Wave Studios New York working for the next Super Bowl again? Stay tuned. And, for more delivery news, sign up for your account today.
