The Future Of Flight Is Coming To Uber

Uber Air is now running, on Joby. Uber in the skies has come into fruition, at last. This is a soon-to-launch aerial ridesharing service that lets you book all-electric, vertical takeoff and landing air taxis directly via the Uber app official.

It has been stated that each aircraft can carry up to four passengers, and is manned by a pilot, so not driverless, perfect. It features comfortable seating, featuring large windows with panoramic views of the city below from every seat.

Joby will carry its first air passengers later this year in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, marking a significant milestone in this tie-up that will bring multi-modal transportation to cities around the world.

“We set out to build a new layer of urban transportation,” stated Eric Allison, Joby’s chief product officer. “Our focus has always been on creating a flight experience that operates quietly and integrates naturally into the rhythm of city life. By partnering with Uber, we’re making this new mode of transportation familiar and accessible, connecting the ground and the sky through a system designed to save people time and fit seamlessly into how they already move.”

Joby, doing business as Joby Aviation, is headquartered in California, a transportation company developing an all-electric, vertical takeoff, and landing air taxi. Joby aims to operate its speedy, quiet, and convenient air taxi services in key markets and cities across the globe.

Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time that Uber and Joby are working together. They have been in a continuous collaboration to deliver the future of urban air mobility since 2019. In 2021, Joby acquired Uber Elevate, which performed a pivotal role in establishing the urban air mobility sector and developing the tools needed for market selection, demand simulation, and multi-modal operations.

Last year, the two also worked together by bringing commercial helicopter services to the Uber app. This helped give way for Joby’s electric air taxi service, which is expected to expand to markets such as Dubai, Los Angeles, Japan, New York City, and Great Britain.

Uber’s chief product officer, Sachin Kansal, told Ridesharing Forum, “We’ve long believed in the power of advanced air mobility to transform how people move through cities. With Uber Air, riders will be able to book Joby’s electric air taxi through a simple and familiar, one-tap experience on Uber, seamlessly connecting every leg of their journey – making ground-to-sky travel even more effortless.”

Uber Air with Joby is engineered with multiple levels of redundancies to improve safety, and it is designed for urban integration, featuring an acoustic profile that is quiet enough to blend into the ambient sounds of a city’s streets. So, for people in residences, the sounds of aircrafts won’t be annoying.

This ride is almost ready. In fact, procedures are now available to help you get started.
