DoorDash is making it easier to order the food you love, but interestingly enough, some others still find it difficult. So, they rely upon AI as their personal assistant to order for them. Luckily, it works.
The future has arrived at the world’s number one food delivery app.
Let’s go introducing DoorDash CLI, which stands for command-line tool for developers, created to let you order DoorDash directly from your AI personal assistant, or AI agent, so you’re not doing it. This tool reportedly could also be used to search stores, find deals, and check-out.
“Today, we’re opening up the DoorDash CLI in limited beta. dd-cli lets you order DoorDash directly from your agent: search stores, find the best deals, check out, and more. Early access for US/Canadian macOS developers by waitlist. Excited to see what folks build!” the co-founder of DoorDash, Andy Fang, noted on his Twitter or X account.
Fang called it “dd-cli,” the brand-new tool currently available to macOS developers in the USA and Canada, but through a waiting list. As of now, DoorDash, as a company, is yet to comment on this newest feature. He also shared a video shot of how it works.
So, command-line tools are text-based programs that run by typing commands in a PC terminal or console, rather than tapping icons.
Unlike a GUI or Graphical User Interface, which depends on windows and menus, these tools operate purely through text inputs and outputs. In short, these tools are the foundations or bases so the AI-assisted DoorDash ordering commands can work.
With this move, DoorDash is apparently exposing the ordering platform of itself to AI agents, letting developers add functionality to their own software and services. It means that instead of visiting the official DoorDash app, these developers could build their own tools for preparing the system so consumers can order food, groceries, find local lunch deals, among other things, or use those capabilities as building blocks combined with other tools.
DoorDash has previously made this work via iMessage, now with its own AI chatbot called “Ask DoorDash,” offering two examples of how agentic commerce can work. It also exposes its service to AI chatbots, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Claude.
So, it’s quite promising. But, the most-talked-about comments on social are quite mixed, saying, “fable, order me a burrito bowl with extra chicken and guac. financed over 6 months with affirm, get me the best terms,” “can’t believe i am asking this but, can i please get doordash cli access,” “actually goated,” “Need this in Hermes now! In the meantime while this runs through beta - the best way to do this is browser use or android control,” and “Very cool, if you guys could build something like this inhouse why did you give an eight figure contract to giga ML?”
In conclusion, it’s still at a very complex situation right now, but they’d be able to complete this soon.
