The CEO of Lyft, Risher, is keen on practicing this habit like doing the sign of the cross before you eat, and he says that other business leads should do the same.
The Lyft lead, mind you, oversees a ridesharing operation of over one million drivers, but around every seven weeks, or whenever he can find the time, he told the RSF team he gets behind the wheel of his own car to do the similar thing as the contractors of the company.
In other words, he wears the shoes of every Lyft driver out there.
“The most surprising thing is we are a really important part of a lot of people’s lives,” Risher told ridesharing media. “I think it’s sometimes easy to overlook that.”
For instance, he recalls picking up a passenger at 9:30 a.m. at this part of San Francisco. He took the courage to ask the passenger – by the way, who might not know him despite his fame – asking him why he prefers taking Lyft. The passenger responded to him, saying arriving at work on time is crucial to keeping his job.
“He said: ‘Look, if I get there at 10:01, I’m fired. I got to get there by 10 o’clock. And public transportation – as much as I’d like to use it because it’s less expensive – it’s not reliable enough,’” Risher, the Lyft CEO, pointed out.

No moving down the slope, especially since the District of Columbia Department of Transportation announced, yes, tonight, that it is granting and renewing the five-year operative contract for Lyft to expand and retail availability for Capital Bikeshare around the city.
The news release stated that the contract will soon open its doors to expand the electrification of the bike fleet, and increase the number of docking stations.
“This new contract gives us an opportunity to build on that momentum by expanding the network, advancing electrification, and keeping Capital Bikeshare one of the most affordable bikeshare systems in the country,” the transportation department’s director, Sharon Kershbaum, told RSF.
It was in 2025 when the Capital Bikeshare program surpassed six million trips and expanded its number of docking stations to over 800. As of June 2026, it went up to 850 stations.
Under the contract renewal, there will be docking stations that will run electrically to charge eBikes, lowering the operating costs, and enhancing the availability for riders.
“We’re proud to have been selected to continue operating Capital Bikeshare on behalf of the District and seven other Member Jurisdictions across the region,” stated Blake Dickler, general manager of Capital Bikeshare for Lyft.
