Traveling shouldn’t be stressful.
And, you’ve heard countless stories of tourists complaining about their woes getting to and from the airport during their tours, from drivers requesting additional fees that are on top of the agreed fare or the amount on the app – due to the toll fees – to taxi drivers overcharging, and you wouldn’t know until you get to your destination.
Thank you to Lyft and Uber, you can take their shuttles to and from Boston’s General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport for under $20 per seat. Plus, there’s even a TSA security line perk to boot! Isn’t that marvelous?
How much does it originally cost?
According to Google, a usual taxi fare from downtown Boston to the Logan Airport costs as much as $35, and according to the Boston Police Department, there is a $2.75 toll for all trips. More often than not, drivers ask passengers to pay for these toll fees.
Now, there will be Lyft and Uber airport shuttle stops at designated pick-up and drop-off locations in Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville. This already officially began last April 16th, ahead of the busy summer travel season in the Boston area and in Massachusetts.
Things to do in Boston are massive. Tourists love exploring Fenway Park, The Boston Pops, The Boston Marathon, Boston Common, The 4th of July, The Boston Accent, Newbury Street, The Subway, Baked Beans, and The Harborwalk are the favorite to visit by tourists.
“[The shuttles] give our passengers more flexibility through affordable and reliable transportation options,” airport administrators told Ridesharing Forum. “This initiative helps us advance our efforts to increase… travel, ease congestion, and improve efficiency across the airport.”
The perk talked about earlier is the “Ticket to Skip” perk, allowing passengers on these Lyft and Uber shuttles to skip the long line at the TSA security line.
The pick-up spots, time
This system of rides has been successful in other major airports in the United States.
“This shuttle service is about giving real people a reliable, affordable way to get to Logan – whether you’re a daily commuter, a first-time traveler, or just trying to avoid the headache of airport parking,” Lyft’s Yuko Yamazaki chatted with Ridesharing Forum.
The shuttle will run almost every day of the week. Pick-up and drop-off points include North Station, Porter Square, and Kenmore Square.
For Lyft, at the Porter-Somerville-Lechmere areas, the stops are Porter Square, Cambria Hotel-Somerville, Lechmere, and Logan Airport.
However, the shuttle rides will only be available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. A shuttle ride arrives every 60 minutes.
Think of this similar to the shuttle buses in huge Asian airports like Hong Kong and Singapore, except that they’re managed by Lyft and Uber, get that?
Meanwhile, for Uber, in Central Boston, the stops are Allston, Boston University/Kenmore Square, North Station, and Logan Airport.
The Uber shuttles will run 2 p.m. to midnight local time every day. A shuttle arrives every 30 minutes, so plan your trip well.
There will also be shuttle rides in Cambridge, stopping at Porter Square, Harvard Square, MIT/Kendall Square, and lastly, Logan Airport. The rides will run at the same time as those in the Central Boston area. Frequency is every 30 minutes.
